No way Dusty bats Bell 2nd. He's too stuck in order school thinking. But I could see: Altuve Bregman Alvarez Bell Tucker Pena Brantley/Gurriel Meyers/McCormick Maldy.
Forgot about Dubin, I like his stuff but I would be okay trading him. He may also need TJS but if a team is rebuilding they would be patient. I would swap him in for Bielak in a heartbeat. He would still clear a 40-man spot. Would also like to send Bielak and/or Odorizzi to STL for a Zach Thompson, Alec Burleson, or Brendan Donovan (all guys blocked in their system, they really need another starter or even two). Even if we do go through with my hypothetical trade I would still try to get one more bat to play LF as Brantley insurance. I love Uncle Mike, but am pessimistic on his prognosis due to the lack of updates.
It was open ended simple question. Of the players you listed or any other player that fits the criteria, do you consider any worse than Chas overall, offense and defense, that Dusty has played frequently in lieu of Chas? Chas has not sucked prior to the last few weeks. Even erasing the last month of Chas's stats, Chas's WAR/PA exceeds Bell's of the last 2 seasons despite playing a lot of LF. Being able to play a premium defensive position well is worth a lot. Though, I should point out, Bell has a lot of value tied to two incredible hot streaks this year well above his career numbers hitting which aren't much better than Chas's for park adjusted/year adjusted numbers. Even if you view Chas much worse than most objective WAR numbers, what about Tucker who was behind Reddick until Alvarez went down after 2 games? Did you think Reddick was going to have a better year in 2020 like Dusty?
The Astros have tons of position players who could be MLB producers and lost in rule 5 draft that they will need to decide whether to protect on 40 man. Just a quick check ( very likely to have missed some) shows C) Diaz, Berryhill, Salazar, Stubbs Inf) Hensley, Valdez, Kessinger Of) Brewer, Barefoot, Julks, w Abreu, Adolph, McKenna The majority of those guys can be included in a deal 3 or even 4 for a MLB player that helps When it would normally be a 2 or 3 for 1 deal.
I like that. I’m also open to a Brantley & Yuli platoon theoretically, because I don’t see Chas, but the ideal would be a Chas/Brantley platoon if Chas is still around.
You can't use WAR/PA to compare Player A, who takes all comers in every PA, and Player B, who is only batted in optimal situations for him. It's just apples to oranges.
Then Bell can't be the target. It has to be "someone else" and "someone else" has play the outfield. I do hope it's someone else because the organization and the infielders value what pineapple does at 1b
Bell bats in more optimal situations for him than Chas as Chas is more likely to benched against LHPs than RHPs. Plus, Chas gets a lot of WAR defensively. Chas is not being used as a platoon player. Even if you think Bell is a better player. It likely is not a huge gap such that Chas not getting regular PAs should be sufficient to suggest Baker does not value players consistent with how players are valued by most teams. Edit: I'm not sure if Bell or Chas will be better going forward. As long as Chas is an Astro, I'd give Bell the odds of producing more WAR with it being close on a WAR/PA basis unless Chas is platooned and plays CF.
That’s what I love about Mancini. I doubt we get him as we haven’t been linked to him, but he has true 1B/LF flexibility.
He is a better first basemen than a left fielder, but he can play some there. The problem with Mancini has been that the Orioles have put a high price on him because they are not sure what they will do at the deadline (as of a few days ago).
I like Mancini I just see someone paying more for him. since he has that option next year. Bell is the clear target and the Alek Thomas Dude from Arizona sounds like a good add aswell. That could spell the end of Chas?
Who knows what Baker would do.... but I personally would move Bell back in the order because he is slow and hits into a lot of double plays. I would have a line up of: Altuve Brantley Bregman Alvarez Bell Tucker Pena Meyers Maldonado
Yeah if you remove the good parts of this season, Bell hasn't been all that great. What an absurd thing to post. Maybe Chaz can play 1B, he's clearly a better hitter than Bell in your eyes if given the chance. I bet his metrics won't be great if he does though since 1B gets such a huge positional hit, which you choose to ignore.
I expect 5 trades between now and then- everyone else feel free to guess: 1) Odo going out 2) bat #1 3) backup catcher 4) LHRP 5) Bat #2. it’s possible some of these might be consolidated into one bigger trade but that’s my guess. What’s yours?
I'll welcome anyone because we can't have bats going dormant after einning an ALCS in storybook fashion.
With the pitching depth the Stros currently have the Diamondbacks and the Nats should make great trading partners.
Edit: Seal is right. Dusty never plays worse players over better players. I will say, I do not think Chas is a better hitter than Bell. I think both have been streaky this year.
What about this Whitley to the Diamondbacks for Alec Thomas Odorizzi and Maton to the Cards for Alec Burleson and Thompson Chas, Solomon, Ivey and J.J. Matejevic for Josh Bell We could look into Joey Bart to learn from Maldy and still have enough Ammo with Urquidy as the Lead trade Piece for a bigger trade
