His agent will try to get the most, and I don't see Stone backing down, he will say this is what we can do now, because of his issues, if you want it, great if not, we will revisit in the offseason and let the market set the price.

Please elaborate on Chaney trying to run Olajuwon out of town. I recall Hakeem asking for more money and being told no. Then he got angry when Steve Patterson / Charlie Thomas accused him of faking an injury. Chaney was fired before Olajuwon asked for more money,

From what I can remember, there was a recording in Steve Patterson's office where Hakeem demanded a new contract they said no, and he said...paraphrasing....."Then my leg hurts"......and refused to play.

Hakeem did fake an injury - but they ironed it out on a plane ride to Japan the next preseason......Hakeem early in his career was a hothead that lacked maturity but was a BURN TO WIN PLAYER......

A little crazy...then he turned to Islam and calmed down....and became an all time great.

I share your opinion that Olajuwon was faking the injury. And yeah, the Akeem days he was definitely a hot head.

Thoughts on possible Kevin Porter Jr. extension? —@JTGatlin

CM: Rockets fans—and, occasionally podcasters, like my man Jackson—like to remind me that I was critical of Porter in the aftermath of Porter clashing with assistant coach John Lucas II at halftime and, per ESPN, leaving the arena shortly thereafter. I wrote that Houston should cut ties with Porter and Christian Wood, who was involved in a separate incident that same game that led to a suspension. The Rockets did move Wood last month, offloading him to Dallas for the 26th pick and a bunch of guys who will never play meaningful minutes for them. A decision on Porter is next.

The Rockets aren’t going to dump Porter. But it says here they shouldn’t extend him, either. Porter had a solid statistical season last year. He averaged 15.6 points, handed out 6.2 assists and connected on 37.5% of his threes. Talking to people in and around the Rockets organization at Summer League, Porter is a well-liked guy amongst teammates and support staff. But Houston won 20 games last season. It won 17 the year before, during the COVID-19-shortened 2020–21 season. As good as Porter has looked, he has yet to contribute to winning.

If you’re Houston, what’s the rush? Take a full season of Porter playing alongside Jalen Green, Jabari Smith and Alperen Şengün, and see how it goes. If it goes well, Houston can either sign Porter to a new deal after the season or extend a qualifying offer to give them matching rights. It just doesn’t make sense, to me, anyway, to commit long-term money, not with so many questions still lingering.

I understand this sentiment, but if you can extend him at 15m or less you do it. He is talented enough to absolutely explode offensively this year, in which case, he commands 25M like Brunson who doesn’t have near the up-side. If he doesn’t do well, 15m is not a real albatross, especially for a team that he would be the largest contract at 15m. We are going to have to sign vets just to get to the floor.

I can see this too - I actually believe this is what will happen, that Stone would sign an extension IF there was a discount attached - but will not sign a significant one and will extend the QO and put his cap hit at 9.7m, and let the market set his price.

We talkin' doughnuts w/o asking @TimDuncanDonaut to weigh in?

Glazed. Reliable. Simple. Chocolate's rich and sensual. Cherry filled, big upside but also the greatest potential for disappointment. Might I suggest a raspberry jelly.

I can respect @Clutch opinion and disagree that 1 instance in 1.5 years is showing maturity vs waiting a little longer to see.

In the end, neither he nor I matter at all - Stone will do what Stone is gonna do.....I do think @Clutch is right in that is what Stone will ultimately do though.

I just think 1.5 years of no real big instance shows major growth in maturity.
