I think it would depend on the offer?

As for me I think they would want some type of Pitcher

    Maybe Maton and a prospect?

I think STL lands Soto. Just a gut feeling…I think they swing for the fences and lock in a middle order of Goldy-Soto-Arenando. They have the major league depth and farm system to pull it off. I think they’re looking at NYM, LAD, etc., and know they need to keep pace with their investments made to date. Can’t say I blame them, that’s a hell of a lineup.

HInce the reason I think they still need SPs

    Odorizzi would be perfect there

I think the Astros are searching hard for a LFer

I just got this feeling they arent gonna bring back Yuli or Brantley after the season and the Injury to Brantley may be more then we thought

Usually how it works. The Astros are not loose with prospects they believe in. They have been pretty good about figuring out if guys are going to be something or not and sending them away. Lunhow held STRONG on Tucker when everyone wanted to trade him. Smart move from management/ownership. A lot of those guys that make that type of decision are still with the Astros.

I would peg the Cardinals and Mariners as the heavy favorites to land Soto.

The Asking price for Thomas I would assume is quite high. They have liked him since the draft where they thought they would be able to draft him in the second round, but the Diamondbacks supposedly took him a few spots before the Astros did. My guess is that they view him as a long term solution in the outfield and would deal real value for him. Something is going on with the Astros, because they have been linked to a lot of outfield bats in the draft and in some trade discussions.

My problem with the Mariners as a top spot for Soto.
Well there Management isn't very smart about there moves.
And they could sell the World on there Prospects to get something done. But still they would find some way to be Poopy

I agree, I think they want an OFer badly looking to replace Brantley at the end of the season.

Hell, as far as we know they could move Tucker!!!

But im sure thats not the case.

If the Astros end up with Bell, he is going to play DH or 1st. With concerns about Alvarez' health, he is likely going to get the DH at bats (as he should because he is possibly the best hitter in the world). Bell is really clicking right now, he is arguably having a better year than Yuli has ever had. So Bell is not playing LF. If anyone is playing left field, it is Alvarez to keep sharp and someone else like McCormick.

They are very deep in OF up and down the system especially after adding Gilbert and Melton. I wonder if they feel like they have an advantage in developing them and feel like they can fill 6 lineup spots with just OF (if they think it’s easy enough to have OF move to 1B and 3B; could be 7 if you add 2B as evidenced by what they’ve done with Leon). I can see a scenario where 8 of the 13 position players on the roster could be made up of guys who were drafted/acquired as OF.

For the right return they would, they have quality depth in CF both at the mlb level and in prospects

There are no guarantees because there are other teams like the Mets that really want to add a DH/1st baseman. With the addition of the DH and expanded WC, it is possible that the price for Bell will get outrageous. As someone else said, in the playoffs Bell is getting 20 at bats a series. He does provide value to the Astros because it also lets them rest Alvarez, but not at the cost of top 100 prospects.

The best thing for the Astros is if the White Sox and Marlins and Orioles all decide to sell. There will be enough players in the market at that point to make trades easier.

That defense would be so bad.

I dont think we are in on the White Sox Catcher

Just doesnt feel like an Astros move.

Maybe the Marlins Catcher Nick Fortes or Joey Bart from the Giants even a possibility of Mitch Garver from the Rangers or a Danny Janson fromthe Blue Jays

I'm not keen on giving up Brown or Whitley in trades

Abreu for Bell straight up seems like more than a fair trade. If I had to throw in a guy like Julks or Brewer to get a deal done I would.

It is very possible because the players the Astros are targeting are typically centerfielders. If they move them to other spots, they should remain good defensively. I know Tucker has not wanted to venture into center, but he is capable. The two top draft picks the Astros made last week are centerfielders. Leon is a centerfielder.... Meyers is as well. McCormick can play there. Thomas is a centerfielder for the Diamondbacks but I know some scouts view him as an elite defensive corner outfielder.

Yeah, the Astros put a real value on good defense in the outfield.

Nook posted that they were looking at Bart awhile back.

I would give up a pretty good haul for Jansen
