probably just reading the tea leaves and Javier isn't going anywhere but it’s curious. Agree he’s a great pitcher. Would be surprised if Astros traded him for Castillo.
Would only do a package around Urquidy for Castillo, feel like Javier and Garcia have too much upside. Doubt the Reds do it, let’s get Josh Bell.
If Javier is the cost to land Castillo and keep him out of the hands of the Yankees, or Dodgers I would do it. I would do this with the idea of extending him in the event that Verlander insists on a 4 year deal.
Not sure what we would want Bell for. If Brantley is back Bell is the most expensive pinch hitter ever to sit on a bench.
I’d be really interested in talking to Javier right now about a 5/40 million dollar extension. he signed for dick, he has made not much money yet, and his arbitration year 1 next year is only likely to be about $2M. call it 3 for 20M in his arbitration years with a 2/20 extension on top of that. He might be open to that. That’d be a great deal for the Astros, potentially, and it would make him set for life.
Because he’s way the hell better than Yuli. And there’s no guarantee Brantley comes back tip top shape either.
I would keep him and trade someone else. IMO, Javier and McCormick are two guys who have too much potential value to the Astros to realistically trade.
Yuli has negative WAR on defense. He’s below average in OAA. There is no statistical evidence that Yuli is still good defensively.
