I would do it. The Astros know Whitley best here. I think chances are he doesn't fulfil that potential.
I didn't even read that part tbh or pay much attention to it as it seems more like conjecture. Personally it doesn't make sense to trade him as its no Guarantee that Brantley makes it back which would leave Gurriel, Bell, and Alvarez to man LF/DH/First
I’m conflicted, I think he’s done as a player but he’s a big piece of the clubhouse. Tough call, but Bell is a big upgrade
I would be utterly shocked if Yuli was sent out. Whitley and Cerny for Bell would be a fair deal but would leave me paranoid of either one of them reaching their potential; Whitley could be a legit ace and Cerny could be a 20/20 stud CF.
I make the deal but I would rather keep Yuli and get some money back or a prospect. When I made my trade proposal for Bell several pages ago it was Wilyer Abreu, Jaime Melendez, and Logan Cerny.
With Brantley and Yordan, (not to mention Diaz) being injury risks, sending out Yuli for an off-set in salary doesn't seem wise to me.
Maybe they "pay the contract" without actually taking Yuli, meaning they send cash over as part of the trade. I can't believe the best they can get with Whitley now is a double play machine rental. You guys complain about Bregman's double play's; wait to you see Bell.
I don’t think the league would approve a deal like that where a team sends a player then the other team sends him back and covers his salary.
When I checked the Twitter account, it seemed to have started posting only last October. However, it has 10k followers and I saw Bowden, Jim Callis, Michael Schwab (amongst others) as followers all from verified accounts. Doesn't mean the tweet is right or wrong, but it does have a lot of legit baseball people following it.
Forrest Whitley has throw 208 innings since 2016, the most he ever threw was back in 2017 (92 IP). I really feel like he is just too far away for a 24 YO that has struggled to stay healthy. Maybe it all turns out to be a blessing and he gets right and has a solid major league career. If the chance to get Josh Bell is only Forrest Whitley and Logan Cerny that is what I call a no brainer. The Astros have plenty of CF stock for the future some just need more experience. Make the deal then if you can get Luis Castillo without giving up our future ace Cristian Javier then they'll only need a lefty upgrade in the pen.
I think if we were really in to probabilities, the chances of Whitley being a 1/2 caliber guy is about 20% at best.
When I read the tweet about the potential prospects, the Yuli part seemed more the poster speaking aloud than anything concrete.
I realize this I don't expect Click to make a move for Vazquez this year. Gonna have to sign him in the off-season.
