Spoilery-but-not-really. Not supposed to take pictures / videos at the presentation, I guess, but here it is: watch it before it gets taken down! Feige goes into phase 5 AND phase 6.
That’s this movie: https://bbs.clutchfans.net/threads/marvel-movie-captain-america-4-new-world-order.302625/
I’m afraid that Marvel is too worried about the internet fanboy people who try to go viral with the “does Marvel have a plan” videos. I think we learned enough about Game Of Thrones being way too self aware to know that Marvel needs to just take their time and just worry about letting the story unfold itself. Look at Breaking Bad. They originally planned on killing off Jessie in season 2. Just let the actors do their thing and let the story progress from movie to movie. Having a blueprint is great but 4 years out or whatever and already committing to the Secret Wars storyline imo is playing with fire.
They have always have a plan. They had a plan for Infinity war/endgame years out as well and everyone loved it.
The difference between BB and the MCU is that the MCU movies are based on completed comic runs. There’s already a story story-boarded for them to work from. The only thing they have to work around is people dying, and in the case of Chadwick, there’s so much BP backstory to draw on they don’t really need to reinvent the wheel there either- there have been other BPs in the comics. The final GoT season sucked because they passed GRRM’s story and they really missed out on his storytelling and dialogue. They only has the 50k ft view of how it would end and their lack of source material really exposed the poor writing they had on the show.
In many ways though the major theme in phases 1-3 is the conflicting worldviews of Tony Stark and Steve Rogers. The story boards really can’t predict exactly how the characters will evolve with an actors performance and chemistry with the other characters. The MCU really got lucky that who they casted ended up working for the grand finale films Civil War/Infinity saga. With all new characters for the most part I just don’t know who is really going to be the breakout characters who have an arc that’s compelling enough to carry a story this big. I forgot which writer said something like the greatest story is one of the human heart in conflict with itself. My guess is Dr. Strange/Cumberbatch is going to be that lead actor they are banking on having the chops to carry this phase 6 culmination. I just don’t know how grounded he is as a character to pull that much weight. Iron Man and Cap are two of the more grounded characters people can relate to so it worked on that level.
He left out the Werewolf by Night Halloween special, What If season 2, marvel zombies, Captain Carter, etc. Hack
Very well stated and I think you hit on exactly what's missing, no breakout characters or actors RDJ and Chris Evans did a lot of the heavy lifting, especially in the emotional drama aspects you cared about the characters and their arcs. Strange does not have that appeal and Thor and Spiderman have become to comedic IMO. They could have the same dynamics with FF with Mr Fantastic filling the Iron Man role as quasi-leader and the conscience of the team and movies and JK could do that but he would need a foil that's not there yet, I think the biggest issue is that they have yet to replace RDJ and CE as the centers of the MCU world.
None of those phase 6 titles seem promising I had to read up on the Thunderbolts after previously not knowing anything about The Marvels and think they are relying too much on teamups and those teams are not "assembling" organically.
Agreed on FF filling the role and Doom would be an excellent foil and a great character if done correctly. If they are going to follow something similar to the original Secret Wars then Doom is essential. There is still a ton of meat on the MCU bones between FF and X-Men.
