IF they PAY him BIG it needs to non-guaranteed. His contract could POTENTIALLY be dead cap like Wall.

I'm hoping zero from the Rockets.

The most I would do is $14/$15 mil per year, which is less than what his value would be without the behavior risk. It’s still a lot for a guy who probably isn’t our starting point guard or shooting guard of the future. Bad teams commit significant money to guys who aren’t essential pieces. Is KPJ essential? I don’t think so. Only extend him on a tradable contract; that’s the most important thing.

$9-10 million per year for 3 years, 3rd year team option. As a couple of others have pointed out, it's short enough that if he's continued to develop and has kept his head on straight, he will be rewarded by us or another team during year 3. I was tempted to click on the last option. I'm not convinced that he's suited to being a one, much less a starting point guard for an NBA team. In fact, I view him more as a wing or a 3. I'm also not convinced that he can handle the pressure that comes with being a starter in a position that entails an enormous load of responsibility for team success. I would love to be wrong. I'm very concerned that I may not be.

    Exactly!

Anything over the mid-level and the Rockets are bidding against themselves. I'm at 4 years @ the mid-level with the first two years guaranteed and last two years being non-guaranteed team options.

If he wants more then let him walk.

He will be a RFA right? We can always let the market set the price.

If the Theis Experience has shown us anything it's that Stone Cold Rafael lets no man or market set the price--he will do so himself!

Why does anyone care, it is not your money.

He has been great as a combo PG/SG - averaging like 8apg and only 2TO in the last 20 or so while shooting incredibly well.

I really hope we shift him out of the PG role by then. I think the experiment has gone on long enough. He's had some okay games. His best games are when he's playing like an SG who brings the ball up. I'm ready to see Nix at PG, but unfortunately Shroder and Gordon are more likely to play PG this season than Nix who is likely to only get garbage time minutes.

No clue, tons of variance.... Unless it's super team friendly (<$5, 2 yr plus team option), I wouldn't be in any rush to give him an extension.

This kid can shoot, pass and defend at 2 positions. Has shown he can maintain a good asst/to ratio. Running a very fast paced offense right now.

I think it's unreasonable to expect we'll get him for less than the MLE. I think he'll be closer to $18m because I expect him to continue being good.

He’d be great in a 6th man combo guard role. And you could justify $15 mil per year if he got heavy minutes in that 6th man role. The problem is how to give Josh Christopher the minutes he needs to develop with Green and a starting PG getting their minutes, in addition to KPJ.

Porter jr is scheduled to make $3.22 million approximately near year.

    In his last 13 games:
    30.7 mins...48.1% (FG%)...47.7% (3P%)...3.2 rebs..6.9 ast...1.0 stl...16.6 pts
[most importantly, the ball is not sticking to his hands as long....passing hot potato style]

If he can remain steady with those numbers next season then
I have Porter jr in DeJounte Murray territory between $14M to $17M...
more money if he exceeds those numbers

I posted where he is at now, but if he can put together a full season and a half of consistent improvement and production without any drama/issues. Then yes, I'm rooting for him to get his bag after he's proven himself and earned it.

Say what you want about Gordon, Wood and even Wall. All those guys in the past put together either years as an all star, borderline all star or a full season of consistent improvement with no drama to get those contracts.

Create full years of strong habits in development and mental strength. Hell, get the bag and his 2k rating (which is improving) will take care of itself.

If he signs before the season, the Rockets will catch a discount. It's basically the only way they maybe sign him under 20 mill a year.
