Have been very happy with my Wusthof collection I’ve amassed over the years, picked up some really nice blades from Bed Bath Beyond and Crate and Barrel when they run sales with coupons.
From everything I've read in the past, a sharp serrated knife is actually better than a straight edge for something like steak. Serrated knives are good for stuff with a tougher/harder exterior and softer interior. This is why bread knives are serrated. The problem with serrated knives is that they're tough to sharpen compared to a straight edge. So if you have a sorry serrated knife or a dull one, yeah, it's going to suck. But then I'm cheap... I'll use any knife. I've been using the same serrated cheap Tramontina set for the past 20-25 years, I think. I've never sharpened them and hey, they cut. I'm more worried about the steak than the knife - you put a good steak in front of me, I couldn't care less if you gave me a plastic spoon to eat it with. lol
You do realize that shortly after you cut that steak you are going to stick it your pie hole and gnarl it up but for good.
The Victorinox tomato knife is priced fairly well. It's usually cheaper to buy loose than in a pack. It's versatile and easily cuts through tough steaks.
