I'm more concerned with Toronto getting Bell than I was about the Mets. The Blue Jays really need a guy that can hit from the left side.

Yep, but they're rumored to have shown interest in Soto which would require shedding payroll space.

Although true they are much less likely to be a playoff team than NYM so they might not be as willing to be in on the top talent in a walk year. Maybe they shop a little more bargain basement bc they aren’t certain that they are a playoff team and if they are it’s a WC at best.

I don't agree with that. They are currently the 3rd Wild Card in the AL. They spent money in the offseason extending Berrios and signing Gausman. I expect them to be very active at the deadline to make sure they get in the playoffs and try to win. Braves were in a much worse situation last year at this time and look how that turned out.

Just to counter that argument a bit- the Jays have spent pretty big money in back to back years(Springer and Gausman) and fired their manager mid-season for failing to meet expectations.
Granted, a lot of their issues are due to pitching and a horrible bullpen outside of Romano.

I expect them to make some type of impact move- but it might be for more pitching.

Seattle might be the best fit for Soto

They have N Marte who is one of, if not the, best SS prospect in the game. If they are acquiring Soto it would be a lot easier for them to include Kelenic, and those two together would likely trump the top 2 any other team could/would offer. They have a strong enough system to add a couple of lower end prospects and get the job done.

Question is would they be willing to pay what it would take to extend him, cause I can't see anyone giving up that much for him if they couldn't

    Here is a question

If they trade prospects for Bell, who is the current player who goes off of the roster (assuming JJ is gone with Brantley back)

It's not gonna be Diaz which really leaves Dubon or Yuli. I wouldn't think they would DFA Yuli, but Dubon offers so much more flexibility, and has kind of been assumed to be the utility guy next year with Diaz gone

I assume Castro will go to the 60 day IL and Lee stays. Mati probably goes to Sugar Land and Yuli joins Diaz and Dubon on the bench.Castro to 60 Day takes care of the 40 man addition of Bell.

Yea the catcher situation is separate. And if Brantley never comes back then there is room for all three

But as I said, if Brantley is back and JJ is the one gone for him, that would really only leave Yuli, Diaz or Dubon to be gone to give a spot for Bell

According to one inning of the All-Star game Shane McClanahan sucks and will never win a Cy Young.

They just fired their manager for under-performance. They only have a few years until their young players all hit Free Agency. Vlad Gurerro Jr. hits free-agency in 2026, and they already squandered last year.

They know they should be competing for division titles, not in the Wild Card muck, I expect them to be the most aggressive/desperate at the deadline.

Yes and no. Moving to the 60 Day clears up the 40 man by opening a slot, The catchers on the 26 man can be considered separate. So far, we have only had 2 catchers on the roster, though that could change if the backups for IF and OF are good enough to have two backup catchers, making them more available as PHers earlier in the game.

I'm talking about the active roster

WHO are you saying would be off of the ACTIVE roster for Bell?

For the Active roster the catcher don't come into play. If JJ is gone for Brantley...who for Bell?? That was my questions, not any of that other stuff

All due respect to @Nook , but Keith Law is a twat. I’ve never seen him not be a twat. He **** on Kyle Tucker. He **** on Yordan.

Guy is Wimpier Baseball Mel Kiper.

Glad there is a consensus. It’s just preposterous to me how he can say it with that much conviction when there is a good chance he hasn’t been scouting him closely all season. If Hunter Brown was a Yankee, I’m sure there would be Gerrit Cole comps thrown.

His main point is Brown lacks command. Law was a little too adament about it for sure. However, Brown walks 4 batters per 9 innings. It's a legit concern. Doesn't mean he can't overcome it or even pitch around it. Framber averaged 3.99 walks per 9 last year and was still good. Brown doesn't get the easy out ground balls and double plays like Framber though which causes Brown's pitch count to climb rapidly and not go deep in games.
