I think it depends on the type of player. Smith shouldn't make Sengun less valuable. Only types of players that would not benefit Sengun are non-shooters and playmakers that are great enough to minimize his time playmaking.

My criticism is less, "Sengun is a particularly bad defender", and more "even if he improves(and I expect he will), he is still going to be a liability because that's how it goes in the modern NBA with 250lb+ bigs". I like the Bogut comparison by the way - definitely see the similarities and agree that Sengun can be a very effective defender at the rim without being an explosive shot blocker but it's very relevant to note that he was a contextual play with Golden State - they still went small with Draymond to deal the most damage....and it's also relevant to note that Love had to complete rework his body to be an effective modern big because when he was heavier/stronger, that actually was more of a detriment as the league evolved.

I think it will be REALLY interesting to see if this Minnesota twin towers experiment works. Everything I said above assumes the league continues to trend toward smaller lineups BUT if KAT and Gobert change that paradigm, a guy like Sengun could be even more valuable. I think the more realistic scenario is Sengun has a future on this team as a contextual play so if we need to go small, we play Jabari at the 5 and if we need to go big, Sengun is our 5. Sengun will always have minutes but obviously he is more of a liability playing against a Warriors Death Lineup so you will have to pick and choose when to use him unless he pulls a Kevin Love, leans out and becomes a highly skilled modern big.

Yeah, I think Sengun wouldn't work very well with ball dominant guys like Harden and Doncic where everybody else stands around. If he makes play, he needs to get the ball earlier in the shot clock and has teammates moving off ball.

6’10” in shoes is about right. I agree with that . I’m just referring to actual measurements they’ve been doing without shoes

If you only look at the skill sets and size of our starting lineup (assuming tari cracks it at some point) it looks like a combination of imperfect players who fit together incredibly well. Personalities could get in the way, but just looking at each players strengths and weaknesses they should mesh incredibly well on both sides of the ball.

Can't say I agree with you and again the comparison is so far off. KAT is the worst defensive big man in the league, that's not the starting point for big men of that size. Sengun did not have a defensive season that made everyone question if he's the worst in the NBA.

There is no one KAT can guard of any size at any position (including PF/C) even those less explosive and less athletic than him, whether at the rim or on the perimeter. Sengun has already cleared that barrier, what we're talking about is whether Sengun will be able to guard the perimeter and cover for wings in the OCCASIONAL case of a defensive breakdown.

that graph wasnt really necessary.... 5 minutes into his mvp highlights or 5 minutes into his summer league sengun already showed us what kind of player he is....

does people get whistled for that kind of fouls in the playoffs or the finals?
if not then senguns defense is perfectly suited for the big scene

We would be happy if we could find one stat like this. I have seen at least 5 different stats throughout the season where he is on the right top or keeping company with the likes of Jokic. Go Sengun!

I wish someone made a Sengun bs foul highlights. It was something that deserved documentation.

Amazing. Let us all remember that he is a teenager rookie in NBA who doesn't even speaks fluent English.

If I was the gm, i would surround him with professional staff in all aspects of life (trainer, psychologist, mentor, doctor etc) and raise him as a project. I wouldn't even let him out of sight. We (Turks) raise children a lot different than westerners. İt might sound despotic but Phelps treatment can be the best to make a machine out of this kid.

Jabari will be wideeeee open on so many plays. With the defense all over green and Sengun … it’s easy Money for Jabari.

I think he won't play 36 minutes, but I think his 3-point FG % will be better.

As long as he gets close to 30 minutes, I think my 15/8/4/1/1 prediction will be correct. And that's pretty damn good.

I think we're underestimating how well others can play off of Sengun as well. For example, I can see Tari aggressively cutting to the basket and Alpi nailing him in stride for a sinister dunk or kicking it outside to JC/Ty for a wide open 33333333!

I was just asking myself how many double double and triple doubles he will get. With wood out and all those minutes, I guess he will average more than 8 rebounds but it is very hard to put a number on assists and points, since they depend on the way he is utilized.

I agree that His 3pt % will go up.
