I do think it’s bad to have guys losing a bunch in the minors. Winning breeds winners.

I was listening to a Rockies game a few weeks ago on their broadcast, and the announcers said the Rockies organization values winning at all levels to develop a positive culture.

Of course you don’t want guys playing at a lower level than warranted just to stack roster to win minor league games. And there’s certainly benefit to challenging guys. But I think losing and winning is contagious and there’s value in an organizational culture that sets the expectation of winning. And I would imagine there’s a correlation between minor league win % and major league win %.

I doubt there is a good one. Some teams with little MLB talent slow up good prospects so they have a bunch hit the majors at the same time (Springer). While winning or close to winning, some teams call up players more quickly (Bregman). Though some teams like current Astros tend to have such MLB talent that it is hard to call up players at certain positions (Brown).

I'd say a good winning percentage usually indicates a lot of current talent in the minors (i.e., depth, but not necessarily elite), but this is more on how many players are accumulating there and not on how many have been developed. The Astros for instance have moved up players quickly enough that guys without pedigrees (and guys with control issues) don't have time to get highly rated when they produce at upper levels (or start to throw enough strikes).

With minor league roster limits, I don't see teams spending roster slots like in the past to win more games in the minors.

I mean- if the Rockies value something it tells me it’s almost certainly 100% worthless. That’s the worst clown car organization in baseball.

They value it in the minors because they don't get to experience it in the majors. :)

I should add I think winning in the minors is good. I just wouldn't let it affect development of prospects too much. it should be done by getting better prospects and developing them. Some fill ins are okay to round out rosters.

465 seems a bit too short

So is 463, for that matter

Daniel Castro, a Venezuelan catcher, is 2-2 with a solo homer (2) and an RBI single for the DSL Blue team.

Kedaur Trujillo, another Venezuelan catcher, is 2-4 with a double and an RBI single in his pro debut for the Orange team. Jose Fleury allowed a hit, walked one, and struck out five in three scoreless innings of relief, giving him 3 walks and 39 strikeouts in 25 innings this season.
