Bell, Castillo and a High end Reliever I would be happy with

    So what would the everyday
I agree on Soto. No way Astros are in on this, but Click’s comments were really out of character. Sounds like they are being very aggressive.

It’s interesting to me that we’d be so interested in Castillo from CIN

maybe we are very worried about losing JV next year , but part of our success will be how well we do in the playoffs .

I don’t wanna pay the price for him . I like Urquidy , Garcia , framber , Javier , Lance . Then JV.

If we are flipping Urquidy or Javier or Luis for him that’s slightly different than paying pure prospect price . But man , even though I’m a bit down on Urquidy ... I’m high on everyone else .

idk what we need . We need a bit better luck and for some guys to pick it up . Maybe we can get a hot bat and a good Bp arm or two / shuffle things around there .

This is a great movie reference, actually. I didn’t see the post but sure it was a bit of a joke.

If they have pegged Castillo as a guy who would benefit from our pitching coaches and advanced data methods, could be looking at him as another Cole

I would guess if we make a move for Castillo one of our young arms would be involved, I would also guess Javier wouldn’t be on the table.

Swapping out Castillo for Urquidy upgrades what is already the best pitching in the majors no? I'd highly encourage it. Add Castillo and an impact bat and see what happens.

Personally , I think Luis Garcia is a better value than Javier . But idk how that is viewed around the league .

    I agree with this.

Let me also add that Castillo is already a stud. He is better than Cole was in Pittsburgh.

In 2017 they had Keuchel, McCullers, Morton, Peacock and McHugh ( plus that rat guy)and traded for JV anyway

Right now this rotation and their level

    JV #1 Ace

Framber #1B just below ace level.

Javier #3+ getting there but walks high pitch counts and inconsistencies keeping him back.

Garcia #3 very big drop off after 5IP or 2 times through the order.

Urquidy: #5 dependable innings eater at league average results.

Odorizzi: #5 won't pitch as deep in games. Very hot or cold with great outings and bad outings.

McCullers: #2 if he's healthy. Big question mark. I say anything is a bonus.

    So this rotation has: 1, 1, 3, 3, 5, 5 and maybe a #2.

Substitute Castillo for Garcia and it changes to:

    1. 1, 1, 3, 5, 5, and maybe a 2

That is huge in the playoffs.

    Didn’t see the movie

It is quite funny to me how disagreeing with someone’s trade idea on the principal of the idea would make him talk about
Garcia has definitely been more consistent and I like him a lot also

I think Javier has more upside though, and if we are making a move to upgrade a spot, JV/Castillo/Framber/Javier would give you 4 guys who have legitimate ace arguments. Obviously Javier isn’t there yet, doesn’t consistently go deep enough, but the potential is definitely there

I do think a corner OF bat should be the first priority if they have legitimate concerns about Brantley’s health the rest of the way

But Castillo could give us unquestionably the best staff in baseball

And I know it's far from a sure thing but what about:

    JV, Framber, Castillo, McCullers, Javier?

With Urquidy and Odorizzi available as insurance or need of a spot start

    IMHO

    Needs

    1) a run producing OF or 1B bat

    2) veteran back up catcher

    3) 1 more proven effective RP preferably a lefty.

    4) a TOR starting pitcher

Which order do they make the biggest impact?

    4, 1, 3, 2.

No idea what the Astros are thinking

But I would love to see Lance come back as a pen guy for this year then back to rotation next year

    Oh no way.

Javier's ceiling is much higher than Garcia's, it's painfully obvious.

Garcia is a career mid to upper 3 era guy who routinely doesn't go past the 6th inning of ball games.

Javier is a future Cy Young winner and a couple of no hitters in his future.

I know it's unlikely, but pretend for a moment the Cardinals go after Soto and need to shed Salary, You approach them about relieving them of $26M-$30M annually by trading for a 34 year old 1B with 2.4 years of control for a promising Pitcher with 6 years of control.

Goldschmidt - $21.9M excess value for RHSP Brown with $22.7M in excess value. Would you do it if you're the Astros. Would you do it if you're the Cardinals?

I’m sure I’m in the minority here . But to me , Garcia has learned how to pitch well even when he doesn’t have his best stuff . Javier has had lightning recently and it’s awesome .

Garcia has something else man . He had less xp in the minors and has a more complex delivery . I feel like he’s faced more adversity and performed equally well .

Javiers peripherals are certainly more enticing and you think about what can happen after more seasoning . But Garcia has room to learn new pitches and refine his offerings too .
