holy ****!! i missed this game!?!?! Im so ****ing mad!! oh my goodness... Baseball is so relentless in the scheduling there are games on top of games. I thought these guys get a little break after the all star game like the NBA.
Dusty haters won't like this but...he outmanaged Boone in the 9th: First, Dusty pitch hitting JJ for Lee was a brilliant move. Righties Yuli and Chas were absolutely fooled by inside pitches, so Dusty countered with a lefty that would be able to poke that same pitch through, which is exactly what happened. I don't know why Boone had them in the shift for JJ's at bat. A .150, rookie batter with a force out at any base and 2 outs, just go regular infield depth and count on your pitcher getting the guy out. At regular infield depth he might have been able to get the force out at 2nd. Dusty leaves me scratching my head too sometimes, but he made moves today. Some of the smartest managerial moves are the most subtle.
That shift perplexed me. I get shifting against JJ, but make sure you have fielders near 1st and 2nd to get the force with two outs! Didn't get why nobody was scrambling to cover the bases while IKF fished out the ball.
We need to tee off on German It took all of our top relievers to win game 1, let’s blow this one open early and get 7 innings out of Luis before we head out to b**** slap Seattle
Astros really like those salt in the wounds kind of wins against the Yankees. Just when the Yankees are feeling good about themselves for tying a game in the top of the 9th, the Astros walk them off with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th. JJ joins Altuve in this club.
POS PLAYER OBP SLG OPS+ 2B ALTUVE, Jose 367 514 881 SS PEÑA, Jeremy 309 451 760 DH ALVAREZ, Yordan 407 653 1060 3B BREGMAN, Alex 357 410 767 RF TUCKER, Kyle 343 472 815 CF MEYERS, Jake 289 357 646 1B MATIJEVIC, J J 227 366 593 LF McCORMICK, Chas 314 401 715 C MALDONADO, Martin 235 333 568 Not a bad kine-up. I would tweak it sending McCormick to the bench, playing Yordan in LF and play Lee at DH. McCormick is weak against righties, Lee is strong against righties and Mati is just inexperienced. But overall, good.
I think they expect to knock the starter out early. The line-up is constructed to face both lefties and righties instead of just the righty starter.
So I read an article in the Chronicle, that Mariners' fans are planning something for the Stros this weekend.........they plan on booing us.
The 3rd baseman's instinctual reaction is he can make a play on the ball and then make the throw to first base. If he doesn't and covers 3rd base, do they get Tuck on a force? I still highly doubt it. Really difficult to get the force out when runners are going on contact on a ball deep in the hole at short. Now why he threw to second base is beyond me, he had to know that the shift had the second baseman nowhere near the bag. But at that point, he's simply desperate.
If there's a good chance he would re-injured, he shouldn't have taken him off IL. You could get inured tripping over a painted line in the parking lot. But if you're activated, you should be able to play. Perhaps just without diving and sliding.
