Funny thing is the Mariners themselves don’t give a **** either Marwin is on the Yankees Beltran works for the Yankees Marwin spent last year on the Sox George is on the Jays Altuve won the fan vote Hell this all started with an A’s rat and we just put one of their pitchers on our charter to the ASG The only ones who still care are thuggish fans who don’t even realize guys like Tucker weren’t on the team back then
It would not surprise me at all if Castro announces his retirement next week, or at a minimum goes on the 60 day and says he’s out for the season without giving much detail on the actual injury, and mentions this is his last season.
I guess the only benefit to this as opposed to keeping him around in case injuries or a ******** of the bed happens is it gives us a spot on the 40 if we need it.
Why do you think that? As bad as he's been, I doubt the team is keen on Maldonado's 36 year old knees being the only thing keeping them from having Korey Lee and whoever next up on the depth chart is guiding their staff. If Maldy got hurt today, who would they even bring up? Diaz? Manea? I'm pretty firmly in the catcher isn't a huge need camp, but that feels much better when Korey Lee is in Sugarland.
Just how cryptic they’ve been about Castro’s injury. Even more vague and quiet than they normally are. Click’s face and vocal cadence when talking about Castro today was very odd. “Uh…Jason is uhhh…thinking about things…we will have more information in a few days.” I would guess Diaz, Berryhill, or Salazar would be up if Maldy or Lee got hurt, but far more likely they’d make a trade or (if after the deadline) go out and sign a washed up old scrub who can still manage a pitching staff and frame a ball.
Wonder if they will play Lee a little more these next couple of weeks to gauge how they feel about him being the backup for the rest of the year If they play him more and don’t like what they see they could easily trade for a veteran backup who is better than Castro
Ah, I never saw the interview. If Castro isn't coming back, another catcher seems like a good target at the deadline. I can't believe the deadline is in a few weeks. One thing about the draft moving back, July is a pretty action packed month.
I would not be shocked to see him go on the 60 day to end his career. Keep the money and open up a 40 man roster spot. Probably accompanied by some reference to not healing quickly enough at his age to help this year. Perhaps they'll mention post playing career possibilities.
Even tho I’m sure the front offices and agents hate it, I have loved this month where the all star stuff and draft and deadline are all jammed together. And I think it brings a lot of focus in the sports world back to baseball after it’s likely worn off since the start of the season.
"You sir, are correct sir!" Keep smiling Astros fans, they will hate because they fear us a they should.
re: The Castro question. The likely scenario seems keeping him as an injury insurance option and stick the Maldy/Lee combo. From an interview in March. https://www.mlb.com/news/jason-castro-considering-retirement-after-2022-season
