Yes homelessness and drug use are a problem, they aren't just a problem on the West Coast as most major cities including in TX and FL have those problems. That issue doesn't help Starbucks but it also affects many other businesses too. Starbucks though have much more market saturation especially in Seattle and some other cities. It was inevitable that they were going to have to close stores.

 

in Seattle for a few days, walking around downtown. the block of 5th avenue between Pine and Pike used to have a yuge Banana Republic/Gap flagship, with the entrance on the corner.

the entire block is boarded up now, stores gone, and it's not the only one.

at least my fav anarchist espresso place is still open.

 

there does seem to an epidemic of seagull schiit on the sidewalks. wonder if they just can't pay city services to keep them clean, or if there are fewer people around, so the birds roam more freely.

as long as it's a unisex bathroom it should be okay

 

That wasn't my take away from the article at all. It shouldn't be the responsibility of businesses to provide bathrooms to everybody that walks by. In most other countries they have public restrooms with little to no issue.

 

It shouldn't be Starbucks responsibility but they stood up and said they would take on that responsibility because they are "Good guys" - then they realized "Hey, yea, this isn't tenable, we're out on trying to be the good guys"
