People on this board are still seriously underrating Sengun. He is the main reason I became excited about the Rockets again. His creativity is through the roof, his athleticism and defense are underrated.
I freaking loved this video. A few things stood out: 1) Hakeem is so crazy gifted athletically. He's still quick as a cat. He would steamroll through the league in this era. 2) If you look at Hakeem's footwork, his feet are pretty close together when he spins. His feet line up with his shoulders. It creates a tighter/quicker spin that can happen in small(-er) spaces. At the beginning of the video, Alpy's feet were very spread out on his spins and you could tell part of it was just so he could keep his balance coming out of the spin. His feet got closer together as he took more and more reps. Progress in real time. If Alpy can unlock Hakeem's moving spin-move, his game goes to another level. He's already got the handle for it. This was one of the most encouraging "Hakeem schools current NBA player" videos that I've seen. Very exciting.
It’s funny how many who doubt Sengun’s defensive potential only discuss his shortcomings, not his strengths. He’s sturdy, quick, and incredibly flexible, which allows him to contort his body in unusual ways, as well as recover well. Unlike a guy like Chet, Sengun won’t be so easily pushed around. Besides, do you think guys like Chet and Mobley can do this?
A few more: He is almost always at the right spot, moves quickly and correctly, has good anticipation for rebounds. I have no doubt he won’t br a liability on defense. And the offense has the potential to be special.
Good point about Hakeem’s spin. He almost like a figure skater without getting any distance. But it is very quick and he has complete balance and control after the spin. at the end he says ‘the spin will open up everything’. It will be fun to follow this statement throughout the season.
The thing I really like about both these players is that they are team players and unselfish. Sengun showed he has a good passing ability. And Jabari always looked to get guards involved in the summer league and run the designed plays. This complements what Green will bring to the table which is a score-first mentality and these bigs will create the space for him and also themselves get a lot of open looks. I just hope Silas is the right coach to groom and for so many potentials to flourish together.
I like Sengun too, but his height and wing span makes him an liability on defense. You can not ask Jabari to compensate for Segun's defensive short comings on a regular basis.
Why not? Pretty much every successful team has defenders with major deficiencies, and teammates that are able to compensate for them. Just seems like good team building to me.
Honestly, any time Ive ever watched Boban, he has seemed to be a positive player. Not saying he needs 20 min a game but he is highly skilled and gigantic.
lol stop it man you dont like sengun you are just afraid to say your opinion and/or have nothing to back it up so you need to add some credibility in order to be able to state the dubious ....
