My guess is the Rockets are actively trying to extend him now with a team friendly deal like they got with Tate but a bit more. However I bet his agent is trying to get him a Michael Porter Jr. type of contract so I find it hard to see how that gets done and the Rockets don’t see him as a RFA gamble if they keep him.

I personally would be willing to risk losing him for nothing as a RFA if nobody is offering good first round picks to trade for him but I don’t know if this front office is as unconcerned as I am about that. So hard to say but my guess is he’s extended in next few months to a number everyone here is floored by because the Rockets are freaked out by RFA… seeing as what Ayton got.

Of course Stone could trade him and give Christopher a shot moving forward but I doubt that’ll happen. All evidence I’ve seen is that the Rockets really believe in KPJ moving forward.

I think you hit the nail on the head with all of this. The Rockets would extend him right now if it was team friendly. KPJ is getting super high praise from the players around the league like Lebron. His agent is going to be pumping up those numbers big time if he has a good year.

I actually think the Rockets will let the market decide KPJ's value instead, at least during the course of the upcoming season. Whilst KPJ is undoubtedly talented, there are severe concerns with him and his character, and undoubtedly there are other teams out there that would feel the same. The Rockets probably want to give KPJ another season to prove his worth, and if he has value, he'll get offers on the market. Worse case scenario, the Rockets pay him at his market rate.

Players having a good individual game is nice and all but ... context man...

Again not to call out Twitter user: Biased Houston. The game where KPJ had his first official 30 pts triple double was March 30th 2022. Fox wasn't playing, and we lost that game at home to the KINGs. o_O

    https://rocketswire.usatoday.com/20...jr-records-first-triple-double-of-nba-career/

p.s. Wood did not play that game; so he can't be the scapegoat on that one. I'm down with the Rockets pro propaganda but come'on fellas.... within reason.

I hope that’s how they are playing it out. It’s not you or I though at the helm.

I also think RFA isn’t viewed the way it used to be. Every GM in the league took note of the Ayton contract. I don’t think RFA has the appeal it used to have. It would be appealing to me mostly because I’d be okay letting KPJ walk if a desperate team threw something like that at him. All signs I’ve seen from the Rockets is they really really believe in KPJ and bless them for that I guess.

I think we’ll know soon though and I personally won’t be surprised if he’s extended before the season starts but we’ll see.

So 30pt triple doubles only count against good teams that are fully staffed?? How about 50 point triple doubles against an All NBA defender - does that one count? I think the point of the factoid is to demonstrate that it usually requires a fair amount of talent to achieve that in the NBA. Guys here are so quick to jettison that away for an unproven rookie or some unknown free agent "point guard" that will "pass better and keep Jabari involved"

I for one LOVE and appreciate all the positive reinforcement from Rocket fans on all platforms one mans propaganda is another mans truth and reality.

PS: The Rockets sucked last year. More than the Kings. Like 10 losses more than the Kings. Expecting wins from that team or even the upcoming one is pointless especially when trying to intertwine a relevant fact into that "context"

I think the Rockets will offer him a VERY team friendly extension. If he refuses, they'll let the RFA market determine his value and go from there.

If he really jumps to a star level performance AND keeps his emotional issues under control, then good for him and the team. We can match any offer and lock him up long term. I just don't want to risk getting stuck with an overpaid long contract at this point if he turns out to be a headcase nobody wants to touch.

KPJ should get a 4y/40m contact I can live with 10m a year.. I will be willing to maybe accept 4y/48m if he really shows up a lot this year.

And it'll be funny around here when they give him something like twice that.

Color me unimpressed if someone do that to the Kings. More impressed if he scored 30 on a MIA or TOR defense. Individual feats matter less to me if team loses.

On the pic, there is Mr. empty triple double himself; Westbrook.

As Rocket fans, I guess folks' standards vary. Personally speaking, i need to see a lot more.

I'm content with seeing his play before making any decisions.

KPJ is still stuck in that not that great now, but shows tons of potential category. But 3 seasons in we need to see some of that potential translate to tangible things.

He'll sign with Atlanta. Holiday expiring. Collins will be traded.

On a side note, we'll grab DRuss, Scoot Henderson, Nick Smith or some other combo. I'd like KPJ to stay if he realizes the organization has groomed him and given him a home, but I'm already ready for contingencies.

Why would they want him? They have Murray and Young. If he wants to come off the bench and play the 6th man role that he belongs in then we can keep him here as long as he signs for a team friendly number

Why would we want Russell? He's worthless as a starter for us just like Sexton and KPJ

Is it propoganda if it's the truth?

There is not a lot of wins for ANY of the players on this team.

So weird that we cannot celebrate the actual positives without all the fvckery.

And I'm not calling you out specifically for this, it's just pretty rampant on CF depending on preferred player aesthetics.

And I'm far from innocent on this myself as I've done the same to other players in the past but I'm making a resolution to support these young guns going forward until they are no longer Rockets.
