Just seems like a more competent Trump... which maybe worse depending on your perspective. He certainly has leaned heavily in far right ideology more recently.
I’m actually afraid of who the repubs would run in 2018 if Desantis ran and didn’t win. They’d likely just double down on stupid/crazy and nominate Kid Rock.
I said "maybe worse". Maybe you like DeSantis's increasingly far right agenda. I don't and don't have a problem saying that since he is far more competent than Trump which is concerning. What's your point?
I kind of agree with this until I see further evidence the GOP is more fully moving away from Trump. Hot take alert: If Trump wins the primary, Biden stays president. If Trump loses the primary, DeSantis is the next president.
Jeebus, I wonder what DeSantis's accomplishments for Florida are other than social "identity politics" bills that makes the media buzz to it like **** on a stick...the same state that's been a laughingstock and meme since they hung Chads. Seems like we all have fallen under the same tactics that no one likes or would try to do in their daily lives. Whatever...roll the red carpet for King of Stupid.
He's kinda fat to be president. I haven't seen him next to Trump to see if he is fatter but Trump was borderline unelectable fat who only won because Clinton was also very fat. Biden is as close as we will get to a bald president but if Ronny doesn't trim up he will be unelectable fat.
I actually thought Taft did an excellent job of pursuing Teddy Roosevelt's agenda. If Woodrow Wilson doesn't come in and **** everything up things are probably much better.
LOL Tulsi can't win anything. Let her pal around on Fox News and with her buddy Bashar Al-Assad. She is not a serious candidate or politician.
She's still better than Kamala Harris (although the person who works at the gas station I go to in the Woodlands would also be better)
Literally by what metric, aside from what a few Republicans on a BBS think? I didn't like the Kamala choice and think she's out of her depth, but there's nothing Tulsi brings to the table that's a positive.
It's tough for me to have an honest conversation because you haven't exactly been consistent with your thoughts. If you'd clarify that we can definitely talk then
He was inexperienced and should never had been elected, however, in his 2nd term he was a much better president. I think GWB gets it worse than he deserves. Yes the Iraq war will forever be his stain, but he also did a lot to save the economy and worked in a bipartisan manner. Once thing you can say is that the Bushes, Clintons, and Obama respected the office and took the role seriously. I'd rather have Bush over Trump any day of the week. At least with Bush you knew he was loyal to the country not his own ego and self-aggrandizement. DeSantis to me is cut in the same mold as Trump, except far more intelligent even if he doesn't have the magnetic personality.
Bush ceded too much power to Cheney and Cheney just ran with it and dared Dub**** to stop him. Enron, GFC, Iraq...I know I'm missing others too. All these trillion dollar+ each (minus Enron) catastrophes even if you don't count 9/11 or Afghan war for "as entirely his fault". Then the expansion of a new department (DHS), the continued erosion of our freedoms, plus the 100k person plus Spook Industrial Complex that knows way more about us individually than they should ever have. That a huge amount of bullshit and burden on our debt, yet we still wonder why the economy hasn't been great again when movements like Occupy WallStreet, Tea Baggers, and MAGA continues to spring up like weeds. I really don't know enough about deSantis other than he acts like a narcisstic dickweed in front of reporters wanting to trap him into gotchas. Some of his laws/executive actions he touts don't really benefit Floridians more than rustle Lib jimmies on the interwebs. I've mentioned this in the deSantis thread, but his "controversial" laws mostly pose a proxy for scandal or as an executive challenge with Libs as the foil. Well Libs are still his constituents and things like State Debt, Collapsed Buildings, or well funded disaster recovery/property insurance are all issues Floridians have to deal with a competent executive (or not...cuz Floridaman). Maybe he starts solving them through baby steps, and I'll back off on the flim flam magic act he's currently performing. Oh Oh but he called the COVID response. Take that Brandon! +1 SCOREBOARD
Only thing I can say about Desantis is that I don't think he wants to be a dictator like the last GOP president who definitely 100% wanted to become America's first dictator. So yeah, low bar. It's kind of impossible to know how he would do as president. Most presidents, left or right, become a lot more moderate once they win and take the crown. There is a weight to it and you are no longer in your state seat of power where the people adore you, you now have a huge target on your back and all the while everyone is asking you to concede to the minority party. Every problem will be put on you and you do have to cede ground to the minority party just to pass anything to make it seem like you're doing something. Trump was different. Trump truly DID NOT GIVE A F....I think Desantis will respect the office enough to know the power is temporary. I don't think he has the guts to pull off what Trump tried to do. Say what you will about Trump, it took guts to try and perform a coup in this country of all countries, we're lucky he's an idiot. I don't think Desantis is that brave, if he were, he wouldn't be groveling before Trump for as long as he has.
DeSantis has made the calculation like many in the GOP that there is no benefit to trying to court moderates or get some crossover Democrat votes compared to firing up the base. What is interesting about DeSantis though is that he has had policies and legislation that actually does have cross over appeal such as the protecting the Everglades. His opponents obviously don't mention those but it appears he and his press secretary aren't very interested in mentioning those. What he has gotten the most publicity for is hard right policies that I'm pretty sure even he knows are more for show than they are really doing anything. As has been endlessly debated the "don't say gay" law is horribly vague. Several parts of the voting law that he passed were found unconstitutional along with several parts of the anti-rioting law. https://www.tampabay.com/news/flori...2021-florida-voting-law-are-unconstitutional/ https://www.npr.org/2021/09/09/1035...ntis-george-floyd-black-lives-matter-protests I think DeSantis was smart enough to know that but these laws are more about making poltiical statements than they are addressing actual problems.
He won't suggest drinking bleach as a possible option in fighting covid. And he won't try and overthrow the government if he loses the election (hopefully).
