It isn't a slip up. Green is far better suited to guard point guards.... and that is regardless of whether or not Porter proves to be a long term solution.

In fairness Green isn't suited to guard anyone right now, but I don't think that's a permanent situation. They just need to treat him like Lillard and hide him in the other teams worst player for a while.

Not very high as it's likely not everyone pans out the way you expect and you are going to acquire more talent. Not everyone will be the ideal fit next to Green & Jabari. And when you consider that the road to a championship takes a half decade at least. it's so unlikely to keep 5 guys together that long even.

But, Jalen will never be the defensive monster against 1's that KPjr is becoming. This is a huge edge that many folks still don't incorporate into their assessment. Green should eventually be a good defender at the 2. Besides, we're gonna have beasts Like JC, Tari, etc. that can guard multiple positions.

I think comparing the current talent at each position to long term starters of previous eras would be a good start to figuring out if these guys actually appear to be good enough. Jabari hasn't stepped a foot on the floor of a regular season game against elite veterans so there is really no way of knowing what how he can be rated until the end of the year.

I don't think KPJ is a defensive monster. He improved last year and went from terrible to solid, but he isn't a monster. Porter can guard shooting guards fine, he is long enough and strong enough and his foot speed is better for shooting guards. On offense Green will play the two spot, but defensively I think he is far better guarding ones.

They can both guard ones. KPJ is already above average, in my opinion, and would expect him to guard the guard on the other team you want to shut down the most. Some games it might be the point guard, some days the shooting guard. I think this upcoming year Jalen will do much better guarding point guards, but as he gains strength will be fine against both.

I think defensive assignments should depend on the team.

Put Jabari on the best opposing player, KPJ on the best guard, Sengun on the biggest player, and Green on the worst non center offensive player on the other team.

Position doesn't really matter that much.
