How the Astros feel about Whitaker and his season is a little different than what Law and others think. They were aggressive with him.
He has a better command of the strike zone, so I would say yes. Is starting him in Asheville too aggressive? All the college guys from last year reported to Fayetteville to start, but he's more advanced than anyone else we drafted last year.
I've never seen him play, but looking at the highlights he's got a beautiful swing and should be able to handle Hi A ball. IMHO
This could also trigger a "domino" of moves I have wanted to see for about a month: Cerny to A+, Barber to AA, and Dirden to AAA. When the draftees sign, we will see corresponding moves.
If Whisenhunt is available I want him. He would have already been selected if not for his suspension. I do not hold that against him as I believe he will grow past that. He screams Rays all over him (they value LHP more than Luhnow did), so hopefully Click likes him too. If not, Jacob Melton, Peyton Pallette, Tucker Toman, Tanner Schobel, and John Kasevich are other good options.
Only problem is if teams see Leon as a "he strikes out way too much" guy, although at least he has improved in the last month or so.
Melton at 64 and Guidry at 80 to go with Gilbert would be an EXCELLENT haul for these first 3 picks. All 3 of those guys would pretty easily fit in the top 10 prospects in the system.
