I wonder where Gilbert will immediately slot in with our top 30

When do these guys report to the minors, now that the Draft is a month later than usual?

And if the MLB moving the draft to the ASB is normal now, why not move it to December?

High School/College baseball season is over, they need something to do before December. Having it now allows them to spend half a season in affiliated ball.

    Never seen the guy play.

Love his attitude, he's not here to play nice and make friends. He appears to be a ruthless guy who will do whatever it takes to win.

    Really digging the BB/K ratio.

Seems like the Astros learned from the Whitaker debacle about drafting dudes with massive holes in their swings with their top picks.

High floor, middle ceiling. At his best he might be a leadoff hitter. Might be a .285/.375/.425 type of guy give or take, smaller build so I don't expect alot of home runs, but he's got some juice in that body so I wouldn't be surprised if he hit 20 homers but probably more in that 12-18 range. Plus arm and has speed although he's not a burner.

Have the Astros already served their draft cheating penalty?

Where does the farm currently rank?

We seem in decent shape at worst

The penalties are over. We are back to normal in terms of picks this year. As far as where the farm ranks, the only thing I care about is how they actually perform once they get to the Majors, not how the so-called "experts" rank them.

I was hoping he would fall to the Stros.

    Yes.

Poorly, Though after last year, it looked middle of the pack at worst, promotions by some and regression from most of the big name pitchers make this system about as bad as the pundits rate it. They've made chicken salad out of chicken **** before though, so no need to panic.

We'll be good until the young pitching (and Tucker) in the majors needs paid, so 2025-26. Provided nobody comes up to replace them.

Atleast the GM picked a guy with those qualities.

Yep, we had 28 in the 1st, also 64 and 80 (Correa comp pick) in the 2nd and then a bunch others later (18 more)

All this talk about Drew Gilbert having low upside is nonsense because he is 5’9”. If he were 6’3” we would hear gushing about his upside.

He has one of the quickest bats in the college class, he can easily turn on balls. He also walks as often as he strikes out and has a small strike zone and improving discipline. The upside is there for a high on base percentage. His arm is plus and he gets really good jumps on balls. He isn’t an “80” guy with his speed but he is faster than some are saying, he was hurt last year and couldn’t run and they didn’t need him to. He could steal 25 bases or maybe more.

I wanted a high school pitcher, but amongst outfielders this was by far the best player on the board.

He also is someone that really loves the game and will always play hard.
