Yep I forgot to mention Campbell would be a redraft. Doubt he lasts to our second pick but Houston saw something in him before and he's touched 97mph and thrown a no hitter (albeit against Kansas). If he can add velo to sit mid 90s he's going to be someone to watch

Perfect Game (posted Thursday) has the Astros taking OU SS Peyton Graham.

As much as I hate OU, I think that would be a great pick if he’s available. Like a rich man’s Shay Whitcomb, a prospect who is extremely likely to make at least some contribution in the majors and has enough ceiling to warrant a 1st rd pick.

Not that it matters too much, but I imagine OU is Jim Stevenson territory. Can't think of a time they've taken an early round pick from his area though.

Oh hell, I just realized next year's MLB draft is now a lottery for top 6.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say this does not, will not, pertain to the Astros.

In the 1st round here’s how I think it breaks down for Houston:

Guys who could fall into their lap they shouldn’t pass up, but will probably be gone by their pick: SS Zach Neto, OF Chase DeLauter, OF Dylan Beavers

Guys who are 50/50 to be available but who would be solid picks: OF Drew Gilbert, OF Jordan Beck, SS Peyton Graham, OF Sterling Thompson, OF Brock Jones, OF Jacob Melton, 3B Cayden Wallace

Guys they could reach for: OF Jud Fabian, SS Gavin Guidry, OF Henry Bolte, 3B Max Wagner

Given the profile of this draft I will be very surprised if they take a pitcher in the first round.

The only pitcher I'd be happy with in round 1 is Cooper Hjerpe. This is a very hitter-heavy draft and a college bat should be the focus. Wallace, Gilbert and Melton are my favorites of the ones who could realistically be there.

It's draft day! The Astros have three picks on Day 1: 28, 64, and 80.

    Mock dump:

    Even Bleacher Report has one!

Baseball America: Cooper Hjerpe, LHP, Oregon State
Jim Callis: Jordan Beck, OF, Tennessee
Jonathan Mayo: Sterlin Thompson, OF, Florida
Bleacher Report: Carson Whisenhunt, LHP, East Carolina
Prep Baseball Report: Dylan Lesko, RHP, Buford HS (Buford, GA; committed to Vanderbilt); had Tommy John surgery

Wow, Rangers picked Kumar Rocker 3rd overall. I’m guessing he is getting a way under slot bonus otherwise that is an extremely risky pick.

I’m assuming they cut a deal with Rocker for a bonus more in the 8-15 range and they are going to use the savings later to make up for the picks they lost signing Seager and Semien. If that’s the case it could be genius, but if Rocker gets anywhere close to his slot bonus it could be a disaster.

So I don't follow baseball prospects due to the sheer numbers of them. Astros looking for a bat this year? A lot of high schoolers seem to have gone in the first, might push a college bat down.

Well of course. The Yankees are much more knowledgeable than any other front office.
