Boudin stonewalled and ghosted his constituents when he didn't have answers to smash n grabs or elderly assaults.

He might have had high sounding ideals, but without a vision or foresight to communicate rough patches or even one iota of empathy to react, his downfall was secured even without the recall.

**** like Defund the Police doesn't really help once tempers flare down and real work is needed to address the actual issue. No decrees or promises will replace the hard work, boots on the ground and effort to get real change.

You speaking for Hispanics now, knowing who they will probably lean towards?

I wouldn't label Democrats as Authoritarian or Socialist regimes and I certainly don't believe Republicans give a damn about issues that the working class struggles with. When it comes to education, healthcare, social services, mental health, and a livable wage they don't do much to address those issues. In fact, Texas sits pretty low on the totem pole in that area, along with a lot of southern red states.

They focus on loose gun laws, bringing in big corporations with lucrative tax breaks, cutting safety requirements and inspections that actually protect people in chemical plants and the workplace, and doing all they can to deflect from the truth. They ignore so many health and safety violations these chemical plants spew into our air and water around Houston. It's an environmental disaster every time it floods, and there is no real action taken to shut these violators down. They bring in money, so they get a break, regardless of how their negligence sickens people living around them.

Hopefully a lot more Hispanics that voted for a Red state got their eyes open at Uvalde. They didn't even bother to have a Spanish interpreter at the site when all those parents and people were there trying to find out what happened. This is one of many examples of what happens when some kid or anyone else can go out and buy an AR-15, thanks to the GOP. Those guns serve one purpose. Kill in mass! Even after the fact, they act like arming teachers (mainly women), adding a security guard or two, or making them like a prison fortress is the solution when over 300 men trained and armed couldn't man up and stop that kid. That isn't logical thinking. It's simply not giving a damn because gun money is more important to them than people. Just another Red State acting like it cares with thoughts and prayers.

One thing is for sure. We do know that the majority of Republicans still supported Trump right after his coup attempt. We do know a lot of Republicans turned a blind eye as he tried to overturn the election. Now that's a regime. That's a party full of power hungry politicians who spit on Democracy and accept an Authoritarian/Fascist/Dictator type government leader. Heck, they like that type leader in Hungary. Marjorie Taylor Greene is the most dramatic indication yet of how a leader criticized for pushing anti-democratic principles like him has become a hero to segments of the Republican Party.

We do know they will flip their story and act like they didn't approve of what Trump did if they run for office against him. Too many Ted Cruz type hypocrite liars and young far right radicals don't make America better.

Working class people don't care about Jan 6th, which is sad but the reality we're in. They care about things that affect them more immediately.

What do you think happens to a sovereign nation when one of the major political parties of said nation gives up on the concept of "peaceful transition of power" and refuses to accept election results? What usually happens in those countries?

By encouraging people in power to ignore the result of fair elections and democracy, by showing people in power that by appointing cronies rather than qualified folks, they can get away with not following the vote or the result of free fair elections in our democracy.

Or it can effect people by holding them accountable, taking steps to secure our democracy from those who would try to not abide by the results, and serving as an example of what happens when people follow the dangerous plans and lies of leaders that seek to unlawfully stay in power.

Political party? I think you mean citizens of the country. Americans gave up on election integrity, not "peaceful transition of power" the way elections were handled in 2020 should never happen again. While I don't agree with entering the capital in the fashion they did I see how frustrated people can do stupid things. What they did had no end game, it would have changed nothing. I'm also not saying there was voter fraud, it was an odd year with Covid and mail in ballots in the millions. The worst possible candidate for this country also won, pretty sure that must have been frustrating as well.

We had a president who encouraged his base by telling them that an illegal usurper was about to be inaugurated and that our election results were fake AFTER all legal recourse had been spent.

And his tactic has been copied by many state level GOP politicians refusing to accept results with the same playbook claiming election results are fake news. More and more elections in this country are not going to be accepted. You think that is healthy for a nation? You think that isn't going to lead to rampant violence?

Do you honestly think Trump was trying to steal a presidency? I think he pushed the limits of of fraud claims at the time without having any information that backed the claims up. I preferred he had just conceded early, believe it or not thou his party may have seen it as a sign of weakness and 2024 is just around the corner.

Its also not like we had a typical election year, social media, sports leagues, mainstream media, Hollywood and pretty much anyone with a platform came down hard on a very large population of this country. They held no punches and made conservatives out to be the enemy of women's rights, immigrants, racial injustice and the list goes on. The only voice of hope and power conservatives seemed to have was The President at the time. If you don't want these things to happen don't push people into a corner and wrongfully label them something they aren't just because you disagree with them.

At this point if you don't believe he tried to do this, then there really is so much hand holding one can do. You have to figure this out on your own and deal with reality. Yes he absolutely tried to steal the presidency. How many presidents call up election officials to tell them they need to stop counting or find votes for said president or else he's going to unleash his political attack machine on them?

Same can be said about you if you think there was even a slight chance of that happening, I think Trump was hopeful something would come up and voter fraud info would emerge somehow. The 2020 elections were for sure sketchy, I think Trump relied heavily on not trusting mail in ballots. Rightfully so, it was never designed as a primary way to vote. It still isn't and never will be. But Dems pushed it so hard that any conservative would have to wonder. Have a more normal election and I do wonder how things would have been with the same exact results.

Biden won, end of story. Biden has also been atrocious and like I said, 2024 is around the corner. Had Trump conceded day 1 and let this large group of people feel like Trump did not fight for them could have hurt his chances of winning in 2024. His refusal to concede and I think he never did, may just help him this time around.

kind of with Salvy on this question of Trump's intentions and hopes. I also don't believe he truly could "steal" the election. He's delusional, but not that delusional. I think he also simply has no respect for American institutions generally, he ran as a monkey wrencher right from the beginning and continued to disrupt the machine right up to the end

Trump was a couple of people away from it happening. He already had plans to replace one of them. It was actually pretty close to having it happen.

    comment from Althouse this morning:

And I really wish Trump haters would move away from characterizing his criticisms of the 2020 election as "lies" and attempting to intimidate anyone who wants better election security — calling them a threat threat to "the legitimacy of American democracy." Put your efforts into improving the accuracy of our elections, not denouncing the people who are telling you that they're worried about the legitimacy of American democracy.
