That's only because most of the times when you need a locksmith, you need someone to open a lock for you. But a locksmith's job is also to make locks and keys.

If that doesn't help, just think of Jabari as our KEY to (unlock) a championship. :)

I like The Jailer, or Sheriff or Officer Smith because he'll be putting opposing players in lockup quite often.

Just posted this in another thread, but I think I got it.

I was reading an article about Jabari Smith's jacket from the draft and it hit me, "The Jacket". That's a perfect nickname for him AND it hasn't been taken by someone else. His defense is so good he's on you like a jacket! All ties together. You could take it up a notch when hes really shutting someone down and say he's like a straight-jacket but I think Jabari "The Jacket" Smith Jr. has a good ring to it.

    The Jacket is not bad

But I think The LOCKSmith makes sense he locks people up. The Locksmith is more like The LOCK Smith than The Locksmith

Per wikipedia: Locksmithing is the science and art of making and defeating locks.

Really what Jabari is someone who puts the lock onto something, not making or defeating them. He's more like a cat playing with the mouse. He's a predator on defense.

Yeah it also sounds like, "He locked smith up" - that's what opposing announcers will say whenever he fails to score. It can be used either way.

The Jacket is cool. He puts people in a straight jacket. That's what it looks like out there. He cages people in. Cager, Trapper, Hunter. He gives opponents nightmares on the defensive end. He's the nightmare on polk street. He should have a nickname that befits that.

Some of these nicknames shouldn’t be on this list. Calling Alonzo ‘Al’ is something everyone’s done

Locksmith's can make locks. They know the ins and outs of locks. So far it fits. Now how does it sound...? Ehhh. I've always thought nicknames should come from the peers. Other players that name someone based on their game/personality.

For instance, know I'm in the minority here, but I thought and still do, that Gary Bird was possibly the worst nickname ever. Comparing Matthews to Larry Legend is a joke. IMO.

One other option would be "Blanket" but I think Michael Jackson would roll over in his grave.

I would like him to have a cool sniper nickname or call sign like:

    "Paid in Full"
    "Lethal 1"
    "Debt no More"
    "J-Sniper"
    "Lights Out"
    "Rim Eraser"
    "Twine Killer"
    "Shadow-1"
    "Hardwood Hunter"
    "Recon-1"
    "Ghost Maker" (Shot Taker)

Even though it's technically the opposite I still think "The Locksmith" has the best sound to it.

My biggest worry is that people might be tempted one day to turn it into "The Brick-smith"!
