I did a find in page for "weight" and couldn't see where they introduced the weight of the bat that is being swung. Did anyone find that in there as that would of course be an important piece of data.
I can see a redistribution of bat weight based on the information we are gaining coming in the near future.
I was looking him up a week or so ago. Unfortunately the hot start he had in Fayettville doesn't seem to have translated to Ashville or CC. He's got a 6+ ERA at both A+ and AA this season. I'll still be rooting for him just based on name alone, but it's not looking great (based on stats alone...I've literally never seen the guy pitch).
ZiPS mans seems to be wondering why Hunter is still in the PCL: https://blogs.fangraphs.com/the-zips-breakouts-in-saturdays-futures-game/
Edinson Batista pitched well for Fayetteville but didn't get any run support: 6 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, BB, 9 K Quincy Hamilton homered twice for Asheville, giving him 12 on the year between both A clubs. Zach Daniels (10) and C.J. Stubbs (10) also went deep for the Tourists in their 14-8 win over Winston-Salem. That IL time really helped Daniels refresh himself because he's looked infinitely better as of late.
This kid is becoming a super interesting prospect. He would probably be much higher rated if he was 6'3. That delivery reminds me of another right hander who threw pro ball for the Giants. Under 6 foot with a very deceptive delivery. Anyone care to guess who I am talking about?
Won’t know much for sure until he gets to AA but Hamilton has raised his stock this season. Lefty batting quality defensive CF with speed who rarely strikes out and has enough power to keep pitchers honest. Solid profile for a 4th OF with upside for potential 2nd tier everyday CF.
Lincecum is the kind of guy we should never expect anyone else to be like. But I can see the similarities. I think he’s a better comp to Tim Collins and Deivi Garcia.
I think that’s full on top of the potential result for him with a very unlikely probability. Yes Linceum is who I was talking about. Mid 90’s with that delivery make him someone to keep an eye on. The only thing holding him back will be his walks.
Lincecum got to the majors at 23, prior to that spend 1/4 season in AAA and posted 13 k/9 and 3 bb/9. So that will be the benchmark for Melendez next season as he will likely be in AAA at some point (although he will only be 21).
It won't be a great use of his talents and it's a wildly optimistic projection, but I kinda get Michael Brantley vibes from Hamilton.
Lincecum accomplished more by age 30 than Verlander did by age 37, on top of being a far superior postseason pitcher (albeit in a much smaller sample). I don't think I can recall such a steep decline so young though. From his age 23 to 27 seasons, he looked like the White Pedro Martinez, was completely washed up by 28, and out of baseball by 32. I don't recall any injury that knocked him out either, unlike someone like Matt Harvey who shredded a ton of ligaments in his shoulder.
It is odd that he seems to have been written off by evaluators (Longenhagen for instance evaluating him as a SIRP already) in spite of his success at such a young age in AA. Melendez is nearly five years younger than the average Texas League player.
Maybe he’s the pitching version of Altuve and no one is taking him seriously because he’s 5’8”. But to me that doesn’t make sense because he’s obviously got the velo on par with ToR SP and he’s striking out 12 per 9ip in AA at 20. The only nit to pick is the walks.
K rate, Velo increase, BB% dropping... such a young age It’s basically a new prospect from last season. I’m sure the Astros will work with him on a Javier like spin rate as well. As mentioned, he’s just someone to keep an eye on.
Tim Collins and Marcus Stroman are 5' 7". Still, not many, but if he's throwing mid-90s at age 20 than the second coming of Stroman isn't that insane.
