He was actually playing defense, this will weaken the lower body when trying to shoot. If you see him play he is constantly moving his feet. He will build up his endurance and those shots will start falling-

 

I actually take your question seriously. I don't think it's 100% for sure his shot will be fine like everyone says it is. I mean, I think it's still "likely" it'll be fine and he could still be an elite shooter but it's just not a for sure thing. Any recent #1 pick come to mind?

I think like Green, the pick is made ultimately because of the potential people see in him. His work ethic, his general approach, passion for the game - all those things will make him get better and better.

OK so to answer your question, if he doesn't shoot well by the early part of his 2nd year, I'd be worried

 

Green was streaky and still is a bit. Smith will be streaky. We'll see a 35 game and be talking about Banchero who and ROTY. Let the kid grow. Look at Giannis's growing curve. His first two years were ass from the field.

Are you talking about his 3pt shot or jumpers in general? People forget he only shot .429 overall at Auburn. He also only shot 32.2 percent from 10 to 15 feet out and 40 percent on long twos. Just Something to track. He excelled in 3pt shooting in college. And I think ultimately he will get his three point shooting right.

I do expect him to shoot at 36 percent from the 3 point line or a bit higher by the end of his rookie year. 3-4 threes a game on average. Anything less would be disappointing.
