How hot does your house get if you don’t run the a/c at all when it’s 100 degrees outside? I think mine gets to around 85 degrees. I’m acclimatizing to the thermostat set to 84 degrees. It barely cuts on but once or twice an hour I think. At night, I am shutting off central a/c and using a window unit. It’s 84 degrees inside the house in the morning. It’s a bit toasty but okay with a fan. It’s certainly tolerable. I notice my laminate flooring heats up and gives off heat. My house doesn’t have radiant barrier and it’s on the lighter side when it comes to attic insulation. I’d rather get raped by a little heat than my electric company.
It would depend on where. When it got around 100 degrees in the summer a few years ago and my AC went out for about 2 or 3 days, my downstairs got around 90-92 (I think?) probably during the warmest days. My upstairs is surrounded by the attic, so it got over 100 because all the warm air downstairs was shuttling upstairs, too.
I forgot to mention that I do have solar screens on the windows. That helps keep the temperatures lower inside the house. I'm not sure how much of a difference it makes but I do know it makes a difference.
For about an hour that day the temperature gauge on our back patio read 113! It faces east, it wasn't the middle of the afternoon, but maybe between noon and 1pm. We couldn't believe it. Felt like it, though. Very freakish. It "cooled off" later in the day a few degrees. This has been an insanely hot July. August in July, which is crazy.
Solar screens really help, but the drawback is if you put them on all your windows or windows that allow a lot of light in that you want, you could end up with a dark house. It depends on which solar screens and light transmittance they allow, of course, but they definitely do help cut down on hit. Tinting/putting film on glass can help, too.
Damn, read the thread title as 2022-hurricane and severo -weather discussion... Got suspicious when Severo was not being discussed, just want to say I'm very disappointed. @Os Trigonum @heypartner
I snorted. Yeah, Brits/Scots/Welsh/Irish are weird with weather. They b**** all the time about it and eat ice cream and wear shorts when its 65...but then vacation in Spain or Morocco in July where its much hotter. They do drink beer room temperature though, so thats probably why they're all upset. Who wants a heavy Guinness at 90 degrees? Also, I totally forgot until a British podcast I listened to mentioned it, they dont have window or screens for bugs. Come to think of it, I dont remember many bugs at all while I was there; although it was barbarically cold for most of the time there.
I know I’m weird, but when we lived in Calgary, I’d sleep with the window open when it was ten or twenty degrees outside. In the winter when a chinook would roll in, and it would warm up to the upper twenties, I’d drive around with my windows rolled down. All the locals would be bundled up in their winter finest, and this dumb Texan would be rolling around in shorts and short sleeves. I ain’t cut out for Texas summers.
You're a sicko. Maybe your username is accurate and youre actually meant to live in Poland? I dont mind the heat but hate winters. Which is a shame because I'd love to live in Montreal if I could.
When we lived in Minnesota we'd do the same. Sleep with the bedroom windows open a bit, even when it was well below freezing. Go for runs in shorts and a sweatshirt and a hat when it was 20.
I remember the 112 in 2000. I had a soccer game at Zilker. We were shorthanded, too. Was the worst thing ever. Why they didn't cancel the game was beyond me. Even worse, why the hell did I show up?
Be the change you wish to see, my friend. Pierogis, beautiful women, and access to half the labor unions in Manhattan. Worth the legal fees for a name change,
That's called going native. It's not unusal to see people out in shorts here in subfreezing temps. The next two days though temps here in Minneapolis are doing the opposite as it might hit a 100 tomorrow and Tuesday.
