I say yes, in that we should definitely kick the tires. I wouldn’t want to get into a bidding war, but they should at least make an offer and stay firm on it. They could offer KPJ or TyTy + KMJ + 2 FRP. It might not get it done, but at least you could say you made the offer and got outbid, rather than seeing the return and saying “we could have topped that.”
No. We’d have to give up way too much for him. He’s not a Lebron, KD, Kyrie, Curry level talent. I’d trade Ego and maybe 2 firsts for him (no way in hell they’d take that).
This is such a Les Alexander move, knows well The Rockets wont win a chip but will get people excited and go to games..... Rinse and repeat until the next meh star comes along and do it again.... Thankfully Tilman is doing it the right way, no fake bs just to get people excited. Building a real core that will grow together and win together... See how all the drama queens are exiting the building..... Harden, Wall, Wood... No time for their bs when the goal is a chip...
#NotOurTimeline...and what does he bring that we dont already have with Green and KPJ for far cheaper?
I actually think it wouldn't be a bad idea We still have a ton of draft capital and we can only roster so many players. Mitchell wouldn't be the guy here, that is Jalen's role. He would be one of many here. He's still only 25, so young enough for this core. Plus he has a lot of playoff experience for someone his age.
No, but I'd kick the tires over Mike Conley (1 yr + nonguaranteed last year) who is a true point guard and on a slightly more expensive Eric Gordon-like contract.
Think that he still fits due to his age. It would be his team. He's young. However, my preference is to see Green and Smith do it on their own because it would be more satisfying. I don't think Utah could swallow that pill. But this is a perfect time to snag to him cheap.
Somehow, I agree with everything you said, except I came to a Yes conclusion. The big difference right now is that we have Gordon and Nwaba as expiring salaries to help facilitate a trade like this. We won’t have that for the next few years. It’s really our only opportunity. I do it for the right price, but I don’t want to overpay. And I don’t think we have to make the trade. Don’t try to outbid a desperate team.
I don't see him playing point gaurd. He's about to turn 26 and our guys need at least 2-3 years of growth for legit contention. Booker was 23 with the Suns and the core young when they made a late season impressive bubble run and then they knew adding a vet like CP3 could take them another level. Were just not there yet and finding a vet of that quality willing to join such a young group is so rare. I'd rather keep our guys learning the hard way, putting us in place for a Wemby or Scoot sweepstakes and then really try to overachieve and improve each season until our guys games and bodies have evolved and matured for playoff basketball. It's really exciting to think with 1 more potential future star drafted on this team, we could have an insane big 3 or 4 for a really long time ...if Tilman can afford it.
A 28/5/5 playoff performer and 3 x All Star is not going to come here to play second fiddle to a 20 year old kid in his second year or to be just be one of the guys. We’re not for him and he’s not for us.
Couldn't find a "@#$% NO" option, so I just voted a normal "no". Don't wanna spend our assets on a small 2 guard that plays no defense and hasn't had great post season success either. We already have our (hopefully) better version of that in Jalen. Plus our sg rotation (JG, Gup) still has that nice "new car" smell on them, which is infinitely preferable to "jazz stank"!!! (Peeeeuw!) Save our bullets for a real difference maker AFTER this year! We'll have a better idea of where we're at and what we need most then.
Yeah. I suspect Detroit and Orlando will still be right there with us, but now the Spurs and Jazz appear to be going all in on it too. Definitely more competition this year.
Hell yeh u pursue acquiring Donovan Mitchell... and when the cost is too high you abandon the plan.... but if they want draft picks and arent holding out for Green or Jabari... im having the convo....
At some point we have to add a significant piece or two. Next year's Free Agency class leaves a lot to be desired. Before we have to pay Jalen and Jabari 40-50 million per year, I would like to have seen them in the playoffs when it really counts. Nothing scares me more than a situation like Pelicans paying Zion all of that money and never really knowing if he is a winning player when it counts most and teams focus on you for a 7 game series. Not saying it has to be Mitchell, but 3 1st Round picks on the roster again next year does not seem like a winning basketball decision. Fertitta and Stone have said we will make our big move next year, so I will take them at their word. My only thing is...there does not seem to be that one player that can really help propel us forward. I think we will be solid from a depth perspective with how great our young guys look.
When you got Pop and other teams blowing it up for a chance at Wemby, you ask yourself how we have fans that actually want to try and fight for the play in right now. Scoot would be a #1 most other years too. ONE MORE YEAR! ONE MORE YEAR! ONE MORE YEAR!
Would rather give the usage to Jalen/Scoot/JC/Nix/TyTy who combined will probably cost less than Mitchell per season.
