Gotta re-sign Tucker The way I see the value is, Brown Whitley Barber Leon Lee These are the top prospects and can headline any deal for a guy like say Contreras, Mancini or a top shelf reliever. Then you've got the secondary prospects to sweeten a deal like Hensley, Valdez, Santos, Paredes, Muchinski, Melendez to sweeten deals. The minors are setup well to add the needed pieces to remain a contender for 5 or more years, depending on how aggressive Click is about adding these pieces. Hopefully Click will be up to the task. the jury is definitely still out on the job he will be able/willing to do. If Click's thrilled with Maldy's performance then there's a problem and after Luhnow's guys are gone this franchise is screwed.
Quick glance! He is grabbing his bicep/tricep area. Would not be surprised if it’s his rotator cuff. Typical loss of Velo and pain is in that area for injury.
Being reported as shoulder inflammation. This is either serious or will be treated like a 6 week setback.
man - he was having the start of a nice outing. is this gonna end up like Appel where if he makes the bigs it’s in a decade as a reliever?
Carlos Calderon followed with 4 nice relief innings: 3 H, unearned run, BB, 5 K Fayetteville lost 2-0 though.
It's funny to me that they are so used to protecting against lip readers from the opposing dugout that he begins talking through his glove even when discussing a potential injury with the trainer.
Right shoulder inflammation. Likely better than if it was his elbow/forearm, but still a very wide range of outcomes. If it’s a torn rotator cuff his career is probably over. If it’s just some minor soreness he could start a AAA game in 2-3 weeks.
I briefly compared Houston fangraphs prospect list against the rest of the league. At a high level, they likely are 2-3 really good (Brown/Barber level) prospects away from being described as average, and 3-4 prospects away from being ranked as a top 10 system. So effectively the draft pick penalty from the sign stealing scandal is the difference. Hopefully that gets erased over the next couple of years and Houston gets back to an above average farm (coupled with a championship major league roster).
Given what Nook recently said about Whitley the odds sure are against this kid panning out. If it's his rotator I agree he's probably done.
Oh boy that is absolute huge news there. Bicep/Tricep grabbing in pitching injuries is almost always AUTOMATIC rotator cuff issues. Whitley hype back to lukewarm levels. The kid is 6'7 whose fastball plays upper 90's when healthy(Big unit had similar stuff but was 6'10). Such a fantastic prospect if he can put it together.
