I think that trade favors Atlanta pretty heavily. Waters’ stock is WAY down. Of course KC seems pretty well run so maybe they are wisely buying low.
If the Rangers where smart they would draft Rocker and pair him with Lieter. You already know he will sign there
It is, but the guy you get with the #35 pick isn't necessarily going to be better, and they will be farther away. And for the trouble they pick up an extra prospect.
Bryan Reynolds to the IL with an oblique strain. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/07/pirates-place-bryan-reynolds-on-il-with-oblique-strain.html
I liked this comment after the first sentence, but had to unlike it after the last one. I think KC is one of the more inept franchises in baseball, and this move does nothing to change my feelings.
I think it's a lot closer than you're giving it credit for. The upside for the 35th pick is decent but there's so many variables that'll go into the WAR being anything greater than zero. Odds are decent that with Waters going to an org like KC he'll make the show and produce some WAR. Then you got two more prospects on top of that. Hoffman looks like a perfectly cromulent pitching prospect who could produce some major league value later. It's a pure upside play on Atlanta's part. Not saying its a bad move, there's a decent possibility KC gets more value out of the deal. Think we were all stoked by the Pence for Singleton/Cosart/Zeid/Santana trade but I think the Phillies got the better end of the trade.
After what they got for Cosart, (Marisnik) then trading Marisnik for Blake Taylor etc... What makes you think they lost the Cosart trade. Cosart never amounted to much and Pence did far more in San Francisco than he did in Philly.
Rockies will try to extend Daniel Bard and not trade him at the deadline. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2022/07/rockies-reportedly-open-to-trading-chad-kuhl-alex-colome.html
Idiots. Not only should Bard be traded, but Marquez, Cron, Blackmon, and Iglesias should also be sold to the highest bidder (along with the 2 scrubs they allegedly actually will trade, Colome and Kuhl).
They have proven their stupidity over and over for several years. Bottom line..... this trade market is drying up and getting more expenisve by the day.
That’s a really shittily run organization. They also should throw in 75 million and trade us Kris Bryant.
It’s just so wasteful. They have a couple of decent players and shelled out for Bryant yet unless they actually engage the market according to their situation they have no chance of ever even making the postseason much less winning rings. They could probably get 2-3 building block style top 100 prospects for Marquez. They could add young upside arms they desperately need to stock their bullpen by trading Bard, Cron, Iglesias, and Blackmon (they’d have to eat his salary). Add that to the few good prospects they already have (Veen, Romo, Vilade, Tovar, a few others) and the decent players they have under long term control (Bryant, McMahon, Rodgers, Joe, Serven, Freeland, Senzatela), and they might actually be one of the many teams in the wild card mix.
It was absurd. I think I had 8/160 so the length of contract and money didn’t offend me, but the fact that it was Colorado that gabe it to him did. So so so stupid
If Baltimore decides they want to be buyers I think Urquidy would be a good fit for them. The Orioles farm system is extremely deep and there are a slew of likely future everyday players in the 10-30 range from their prospect list. Their top 10 would probably be off limits, but Urquidy for 2-3 from a group of Hudson Haskin, Cesar Prieto, Connor Norby, and Terrin Vavra would be a good to great deal for Houston.
I would so ask for Heston Kjerstad, Cesar Prieto and Hudson Haskins for Jose Urquidy and I'd give them Whitley.
Yea, Lee went 3 for 4, so let’s change our minds about Maldonado because of that one game, and put Lee in there to handle the pitching staff every day. Sounds like a good sound strategy to win a title
Eric Longenhagen of Fangraphs covered the trade. Trade value wash but he favored Atlanta's end because of draft potential.
Urquidy is the guy I would trade and do think he should be traded. The 2023 rotation looks plenty deep considering Brown has done all he can in AAA and the team should push to resign JV. JV ( hopefully) Valdez McCullers Javier L Garcia Brown. I would say trade him for a piece that helps with the World Series run- a bench/insurance bat or bullpen arm. He could potentially bring both. But 2-3 prospects that would upgrade the farm system would be very nice too. But maybe they can do both: Baseballtradevalues.com has Urquidy valued at $10.5M Josh Bell is $5.6M. Nationals #12 prospect Matt Cronin is a LHRP with a 45 grade. Electric FB and very good curve. Looks to be a late inning reliever and the Astros are very thin in LH pitching. Should slide in somewhere 10-15 in Astros system and be ready next season if not now. $2.0M #19 prospect Drew Milles is a 40 grade switch hitting catcher. He is defense first and looks to he stronger hit tool than power. Would also likely fit in the 10-15 range of Astros prospects, be AAA next year and ready for 2024 if catcher is still a need. $1.8M So the Nationals get a young controllable dependable starter and $1.1M in excess value. Astros get a rental impact bat and 2 mid level prospects at positions of need.
