After looking over the '91 releases I think The Silence of the Lambs is probably my favorite or top movie from that year.

9 year old me would choose something like:

    T2: Judgment Day
TMNT II: The Secret of the Ooze
    Hook
    Drop Dead Fred
    What About Bob?

    At the time, probably these:

TMNT II: The Secret of the Ooze
    Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves
    Beauty and the Beast
    The Naked Gun 2 1/2
    The Addams Family

Honorable Mention: Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead.

    Silence of the Lambs
    New Jack City
    Cape Fear
    Boyz In The Hood
    Naked Lunch

Thelma and Louise should be on that list but I have never seen the entire movie.

This was a great movie year.

I couldn't stop at 5. In no particular order (I likely forgot one or two and a couple are "guilty pleasures"):

    K2
    Silence of the Lambs
    Cape Fear (the remake)
    Point Break
    The Fisher King
    Terminator 2
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
    Proof
    Zandalee
    True Colors
Naked Lunch (thanks for the reminder, @jiggyfly)

I missed that Point Break came out that year it would replace Cape Fear.

Yeah Naked Lunch made a huge impact on me I could not understand a lot of the movie but it was still fascinating.

I started reading a lot of weird sci-fi stuff after that and sought those types of movies.

    Dark Backward
    Donny Darko
    Brazil

They did not hit the same way but I liked them.

Cool as Ice is a banger

such great lines like “Looky looky looky in Kats black booky”

I’m disappointed I’ve seen no Brodie references team. Edit: see them now. Well done guys.

Keanu and Swayze in Point Break will always be the movie of the year.

    Point Break
    T2
    Cape Fear
    Last Boy Scout
    Silence of the Lambs

No order above, but I really enjoyed Point Break, I think I re-watched that one most recently but it's probably more than 10 years ago now at this point...

The Fisher King is great too, I probably need to watch a lot of these again.

At the time, I managed to see most of these movies in the theater, great times. I think on my list above, the only one I unfortunately didn't see in original release was Silence of the Lambs.

    T2
    Silence of the Lambs
    Star Trek VI
    The Last Boy Scout
    Out For Justice

There are a lot that can fall in that 3-5 slots like Point Break, Necessary Roughness, Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead, etc.

The 1980s was so good of a decade I consider 1991 to be the close year for that time.]~ For me : 2 movies at the top~ Hook, but definitely T2 as the top (I would’ve put Dick Tracy in the top three but that was ‘90)

The Commitments should be on the list in addition to a lot of what's already been mentioned

and honestly, Beauty and the Beast has had enormous impact ever since it was released

Considering I was -3 years old, my knowledge is a bit limited. But here it goes:
    - Boyz N the Hood (one of my all time faves)
    - Silence of the Lambs (one of my sister's favorites)
    - Terminator 2, although I've seen it so many times that I can't stand to watch it now.

Um, I think I've seen City Slickers and Double Impact on TV once or twice. Fried Green Tomatoes was received well but probably isn't something I like. I'm not sure if 1991 was a big year for movies, or if these are just movies that always seemed to be on TV or advertised at rental stores (remember those)?

EDIT: Beauty and the Beast also came out that year. Not my thing but one of my exes loved it.
