Maldy has to be the best .156 clutch hitter for the Stros. The dude win games. Previous 3 games, we were giving 6.7 runs a game that usually means losing a series instead .750 in the series.
While scary, the bottom line is a 3-1 series win against a team with a poor record. Just the type of team we have historically lost to.
We're on pace to win over 100 games and our offense still hasn't completely clicked yet. We are also getting our best arm from last season back .
I wonder what this offense would look like if you flipped Bregman and Altuve. Bregman would be a fine lead off hitter with reasonable power and the ability to draw walks (set the table) and I would just love to see Altuve 3rd or 4th. He could drive in 100 runs. Not many people talk about that he’s second on the team in HRs with 17!
If you want to see something shockingly funny, think about the '17 Astros and kinda guess their record against +/= .500 teams vs those under (this is obviously record at the end of the season, not when the game was played) Then look here, over to the far right: https://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/majors/2017-standings.shtml Also, you can look at the '15-21 Stros, just like I just did. Doesn't take long to blow Marshall's thought out of the water.
2022 - Houston vs. below .500 AL teams - 34-14 2021 - Houston vs. below .500 AL teams - 44-24 2019 - Houston vs. below .500 AL teams - 67-22 (includes 18-1 against the Mariners) 2018 - Houston vs. below .500 AL teams - 56-19 2017 - Houston vs. below .500 AL teams - 71-45 @Buck Turgidson - I just used AL teams.
Had no clue the 2017 Yankees had a higher Pythag W-L record than we did, let alone that that team was better than the 2019 Yankees by Pythag. Makes more sense that the series went 7 then, and only 6 in 2019.
See, the Astros have lost 124 games to sub .500 teams during this so called Golden Era of Astros baseball. -Marshall Bryant
The 2018 Astros were better than the 2017 Astros... they just lost to a team who was better than both those teams (and better than possibly the 2019 Astros as well... maybe they had an unfair advantage?)
Altuve is still waiting for his RBI-XBH to not be an out Sox were great that season but one terrible call stopped a game 7. Anything can happen Game 7
