It's NOT about winning in Summer League. it's about teaching players your system, playing good smart basketball and at no point did we play that last yr and it's a continuation this yr
I think blaming Wood for interfering with Silas process is a far reach. I watched the game last night and Jabari played exactly how Wood played previously while he was here. He rebounded the ball and BROUGHT THE BALL UP THE COURT, like so many complained about Wood doing last yr, he stood out on the parameter and took 3's and he posted up on occasions.....SOUND FAMILIAR? And as I have said in the past, I would have never traded Wood until we got a new coach.
It's going to take time to train Bari/Tari.....just like it took time to train up Capela. Capela was horrendous initially and PnR......then endless hours of coming into the gym working with John Lucas at 5 in the morning..... Now Capela is one of the best. And I've shown the Wood 3-pt % before, during and after Theis was kicked to the curb. Wood (21/22): 3P%: 39% first 7 games 23% from first 7 - Theis removal 42% from Theis removal to rest of the season
Rockets still need the same 2 things they needed last year: A true point guard who can run an offense. A defensive minded 6'11-7'0 center.
I think it is more about how other teams are playing vs how the Rockets are playing. Other teams seem to have some sort of scheme. The Rockets are playing some version of pick up ball.
Hahahahaha. You say this after watching one summer league game with only one guy that will probably start, 2 more that MIGHT be in the rotation and a bunch of scrubs.
Nonsense. All teams are playing pick up. The Lakers slaughtered the Heat. The Kings destroyed the Heat AND the Warriors. There are no “schemes.”
Banchero's game allows him to take the ball and go to work for himself. Jabari needs to be set up. different games. one is better suited for pickup style like SL. I would also like to see tyty run point full time next game. enough with him off ball. at UNC he was off ball most of the year. when the PG went down he had 17 assists. last night was more of the same idea of using him as a combo guard. I just want to see him run point, set up jabari, find tari and JC off cuts and kick outs, run PnR and PnP actions.
Actually, I could have said this just by looking at the roster before they even played a single game. Is KPJ or Nix a true point guard? No. Is Sengun or Garuba 6'11-7'0? Also no.
There were times outside of when Banchero was going solo one on one. Watch the game again and focus on Banchero without the ball. His teammates were screening well and setting him up well with rubs. Unfortunately for Jabari, he is more of a spot shooter dependent on others. But Jabari got past Banchero and had a nice left hand layup. Another time it looked like Banchero blocked the shot from behind but did not get credited for the block. Jabari should have kept it in the left hand again. What Jabari needed was more clear outs.....but Josh and Nix had other ideas.....like ball hogging the entire game.
I sort of cringed when I heard in the interviews the other day that the coaches are not trying to implement too many sets to make it easier for the new guys. I feel like that's a crutch for coaches to get away with actually not putting in sets. I don't think Silas should be fired just yet, but at some point this year he needs to show that he can actually coach to a system, and not have an AAU style of pickup ball that was the past two seasons.
@himbasketball Everyone remembers Capela from 2018 when CP3 came around..... but few remember the countless hours John Lucas worked with Capela from 2016 on. From lobbing tennis balls to volleyballs and then graduating to basketballs. https://deadspin.com/how-clint-capela-became-houstons-secret-weapon-1825814662 Another misnomer is that Harden could make every pass from day one of being a point guard. Harden couldn't make a decent lob pass to Capela to save his life in the beginning. Capela had poor stamina issues which contributed to most of his shortcomings early in his career.
Wrong. Wood would put up at least 20 shots. Jabari made good passes and didn't force shots. He let the offense come to him. Maybe he needs to be more aggressive.
Stone needs to help Silas out by making some moves in free agency. The roster as it is now is probably only a 20-win team. At the very least I expect for Stone to trade Gordon and sign a big like Mo Bamba.
