That's probably because you were young enough to accept whatever they were doing at the time. Kobe's fashion shoot was criticized as him losing his mind by many. MJ wearing earrings was criticized by the old heads after he entered the league. "Men don't wear earrings". Not to mention his shorts where he started lengthening them (thankfully) from the old school tighty-whities shorts of the earlier years. Every generation criticizes the next for something they do. It's tradition. I'm not about to wear nail polish, but if that's the worst thing he does, I really don't care. And yeah, kids do that these days. lol.
Honestly, I think it comes down to his work ethic, but I see no reason why based on his current skill level he couldn't become a perennial start/fringe all star kind of player. He's a guy Stone touted for his defensive potential, and hitting that alone would probably make him a starter. I genuinely see plenty of potential on the offensive end of the court as well, he's not like Green where watching him move you just see he's special, but he's certainly not just a bog standard athlete either. If he works his ass off and hits his peak on both ends of the floor, that's a legit 2 way player putting up good numbers on the offensive end...
