This is straight up American Taliban ****. "Its different and I don't understand it, so I must kill it." You never disappoint with your redneck trashiness, rural Georgia.

In a marketplace of ideas, the boom booms and bang bangs are bigliest.

Never heard of it. Thanks wiki.

    Conspiracy theories

The guidestones became a subject of interest for conspiracy theorists. Wired stated that unspecified opponents have labeled them as the "Ten Commandments of the Antichrist".[1] Some conservative Christians have called the monument satanic.[16]

Right-wing activist Mark Dicedemanded that the guidestones "be smashed into a million pieces, and then the rubble used for a construction project",[20] claiming that the guidestones are of "a deep Satanic origin", and that R. C. Christian belongs to "a Luciferiansecret society" related to the New World Order.[1] At the unveiling of the monument, a local minister proclaimed that he believed the monument was "for sun worshipers, for cult worship and for devil worship".[21] None of these critics provided any evidence of their claims.[1][20][21]

Conspiracy theorist Jay Weidner has said that the pseudonym of the man who commissioned the stones – "R. C. Christian" – resembles Rose Cross Christian, or Christian Rosenkreuz, the founder of the Rosicrucian Order.[1]

Meanwhile a monument dedicated to the Confederacy is sitting alive and well at a national park in the same state

If you watch the John Oliver video, you get a reasonable idea of who was responsible for erecting them.

It's not really different than defacing a statue of Robert E Lee. Neither is commendable, but people are willing to risk jail to do it. Hope it was insured.

Destroying a statue is destroying a statue. The difference is in why.

The use of explosives is the same as spray paint or knocking it over?

Same to me. Someone saw speech they didn't like and resorted to crime to stop it.

Kudos to them for being more effective.

The real difference is that a statue of Robert E Lee is official speech of the government and the Guidestones was private speech on private land. Destroying the Guidestones is intolerance of free speech of fellow citizens. Defacement of Robert E Lee is objection to the speech of the government on everyone's (including the vandals') behalf. But I don't think the difference matters much to me -- the vandals are criminals who thought their speech was somehow more important than another citizen's or the government's and that they could choose unilaterally to censor others.

I guess I just view explosives more along the lines of domestic terrorism.

I don't really see how Robert E Lee is the "official speech of the government" or how why that is relevant.
