but thats exactly what it says.... straight up - would have been fine w Jabari - but didnt want to make the call regarding Chet due to medical uncertainty with no medicals available... are you arguing the validity of the source comment - or folks interpretation? i mean, i think they still take Chet at #3 - based on perceived value... and flip him... at least thatd be my play (due to the risk)... lol
That is definitely not all that’s in there. Look you can say everyone is lying and you alone have insight into what actually happened. But the quotes are as clear as day without any editorializing by McMahon. They weren’t prepared to take the leap on Chet without his medicals so they wanted to avoid the risk of that predicament at 3. That in and of itself doesn’t tell you a single f*cking solitary thing about who they wanted at 1. I don’t understand people here, just read the article.
Correct. They probably love Chet, they just didn’t want to look over his medicals 5 minutes before taking him.
Reading comprehension is hard. People are trying to spin it however they like to push a narrative. Just take it at face value and go on with your day. At the end of the day ESPN won and got people excited for tonight's match up.
That ESPN+ article that's linked in the Windhorst tweet is a subscription article. Here's some of the key points for those without access: - Orlando didn't settle on Banchero until the night before the draft. Also mentions that if the GM would have changed his mind on draft day, nobody would have been surprised. The article says they weren't trying to play games to get additional picks, they just didn't decide till the last minute. -The betting odds changing tipped everyone off. - When the odds changed, the Rockets started to believe that Orlando was going to take Banchero. -Houston reached out to Smith's agent and asked for medicals. Smith's medicals were sent to the Rockets. - Houston also reached out to Chet's agent for medicals. They were told that the medicals would be sent only if they found out that OKC wasn't taking Chet. - Houston wasn't comfortable drafting a player without seeing their medical history. - Houston made an offer to Orlando for the #1 pick. Orlando wasn't interested. - Also says that if Houston knew that Smith would fall to #3, then they wouldn't have made the offer for #1. - Smith's agent also said that Orlando never told Jabari that he would go #1. They were assuming he would because of all the press and expert predictions were so overwhelmingly Jabari. That's the main points of the article. Seems like Houston really was ok with taking any of the top 3 guys assuming that their medicals were ok. The thing they feared was spending a pick this high to take a guy without seeing their medical records. Since they couldn't get Chet's medicals, they tried to go to #1 to get their choice of Smith or Banchero (article doesn't speculate at Houston's first choice) or maybe even for Chet (assuming that they would receive the medical records if they acquired the #1 pick). This also demonstrates how prevalent leaks are in the NBA. For weeks, the press and draft experts predict Smith will go #1 and Orlando doesn't respond. The night before the draft, Orlando finally decides to take Banchero and in a matter of hours the betting lines change.
If you don't want to risk not getting Jabari or Banchero, you try to trade up the weeks before the draft and not just after the news of Orl wanting to take Paolo. Also you'd ask for the Jabari medicals before and not just at the night of the draft. Sorry, but your reasoning and timeline make absolutely no sense.
I'm not saying people are lying in the article. I'm saying that people shouldn't ignore the game is tonight on ESPN and it's trying to create this narrative of Magic smart (by the Magic GM) and Rox dumb (no real quotes). You cannot deny that the primary purpose is to generate interest/promote the game tonight. Any "news" is an afterthought on part imo because there isn't any. Also are you going to deny that McMahon uses direct quotes from Magic GM all over the article but only "sauces" when stating Rox/Stone interested in a trade for #1? That fact alone, about McMahon's article, means what to you?
Pretty sure that they requested medicals early on from all 3. Until draft day, only Banchero's team was willing to provide them to Houston.
to be clear... read the article again because the article doesn't say that, the "sauces" do sauces be having a lot of flavor at ESPN too
Jabari and Jalen are Houston Rockets. Maybe one day Chet and Mobley will be free agents and we can consider them when that day comes, but until then? They can suck it easy.
My criticism of Stone has nothing to do with players picked. It's his consistently poor draft preparation to consider ALL eventualities and callous disregard for player workouts/interviews.
It’s not my timeline it’s the reporter’s timeline. I’m just trying to explain it to people who aren’t comprehending the words written in it. You think the Rockets waited until the night of the draft to ask for medicals on players? If anyone is that inept then they should be fired on the spot. They received Jabari’s medicals in time to evaluate him and then made a decision that they were more comfortable with either him or Paolo and tried to trade up to 1 to get either of then. Why is that illogical? It doesn’t even say what we offered. You can absolutely wait until draft day to make that decision particularly when player workouts and medical records are completely out of your hands. Orlando on the other hand had the number 1 pick and smoke-screened themselves out of an opportunity to workout the guy they ended up taking 1st anyways. That **** is weird.
But it’s not up to Stone whether Chet or Jabari workout for them and whether or not he gets their medical records. Both these things are completely out of his hands.
If a player and his agent refuses to give our franchise their medical information. Isn't it kinda hard to fault stone for not being prepared to draft chet if that situation occurs?
Your reasoning still doesn't anyhow explain why the Rockets would only ask for a trade on draft night and after knowing Orl wanted Banchero, if they supposedly always wanted to make sure they'd get Jabari or Chet. First, everyone knew OKC wanted only Chet and second, Orl odds switching from Jabari to Paolo wouldn't change anything about your scenario. If Rockets wanted to be sure they'd get either Jabari or Paolo, they'd have in all scenarios had to do a trade, so it makes no sense to only do it after the Paolo news.
Tim(Dallas Hack who Cuban banned) and Windy(Lebronstan) who work for ESPN(pure trash) is a waste of yalls time.
