What do you do with the pick?

  1. Tank all the way for Wembanyama

    Here's my thinking...

Even if we tank for Victor we have at best, roughly a 14% chance of getting him. It might be higher if Brooklyn is in the lottery.

The Spurs (among other teams) are tanking for 2023 #1.

We could trade a pick swap for 2023 which would increase the odds of the receiving team of getting the #1 pick.

We would still get a lottery pick by doing a swap anywhere from 2 to 14.

I think I would trade it if we were getting someone who could be a long term fit at either point or small forward.

Say for example we can get Keldon Johnson and still keep an unknown lottery pick next year, just not likely top 5.

It would be converting one asset into two players.

It's a risk. The only downside I see is the 14% chance of trading the #1 pick.

    Just curious what others feel...

I’d do it for the right player, sure. For instance, I’d trade it and more for OG in a three-way trade in which Durant goes to the Raptors.

Not a bad idea. Especially (if for whatever reason) we dont love Victor.

Tanking implies there's a choice. We should try our best, but giving away the 2023 pick is just silly.

It's not just Vic, there are others.

I’m with @D-rock, I’d give our unprotected ‘23 pick for Chet right now. OKC wouldn’t take it though.

Agree. And I look forward to watching the Rockets this season. That said, I suspect our O is going to suffer to the point that we'll still get a decent 2023 pick - but not from tanking.

It's a swap. So they could still have 4, 7, or 10 for example...

with so many other picks to trade for the right player, why give up the one that could land us a generational talent?

Exactly. I would trade all of the Nets picks for a good player before that one.

Newsflash people. You don’t play 4 sophomore players and 3 rookies. Kpj Tate and not get a good pick.

Aim for bottom team but just dont be last because last is never rewarded with the #1 pick. Were due. Just 1 more bad season.

Keep our pick and pick swap for next year. I’m even hoping we keep the unprotected 2023 Milwaukee pick. We want to give ourselves the best chance of getting one of the top players in next years draft.

when u are as young a team as we are, you don’t have to tank to have a losing record. We’ll do our best and we’ll win more games, but not enough to be out of the lottery. We’re likely to need some help from the lotto ball gods again next year, but we’ll have a decent chance at a top pick without intentionally losing games. As long as we don’t trade our 2023 draft capital we are in excellent shape.

It's a fair point but from the perspective of the other team the swap may be more important and that can be the difference between landing a player we like.

I'm operating under the 85% chance it's not us getting the #1 pick and that the generational talent is on the roster already.

Leave the pick alone. Lottery is unpredictable. Keep the Pick Swap.

Nets get Top 2 pick Rockets can drop to 5th anything can happen

Here's my thinking... At what point do you stop trying to get younger? We already young... We have a young projected alpha scorer(Green), a talented, young combo guard with allstar potential( KPJ:D), a projected young 2way stud ( Smith) , a projected talented big man (Sengun) and a few projected good/great role players ( Jaygup, KMJ, Tate :D), and some more dudes ( the rest) ... What is a 17 yr old French teenager gonna do for this team except push back realistic expectations for 2-3 years...

Probably the 2024 draft when the rockets don’t have a pick except for the Nets. That is if we even have the rights to that one still. So after next draft.
