So who is the most clutch hitter on this team? It's a really close battle between Tucker and Alvarez. I would actually vote for Tucker right now.
Yordan's got a 1.166 OPS with the bases empty, .800 with the bases juiced, and .942 with RISP. Tucker's rocking .825 with the bases empty, 1.455 with them juiced, and .985 with RISP. Solution? Bat Yordan where the lineup's best hitters hit, 2nd.
And the ultimate salt in the wound was Fields crapping the bed in the 10th inning of game 2 that gave the Astros life to go on to win the World Series in 2017.
Give the man a break. It was his first game back after being off for over a month due to injury. On top of that he, has a rookie starting for the first time in his career, catching him.
What's lost in the walkoff is that the bomb wasn't even Yordan's most impressive feat of the night. That would be the amazing read he made on the Tucker hit, allowing him to score from second on a bloop single. Without that, Yordan's bomb merely ties the game.
i get it. i didn't expect a no-hitter from odorizzi nor a shutout. however, i did not think he was going to give up 5 runs that early into the game. not only that, his pitch count was concerningly high for someone just came back from the IL. when i heard odorizzi was going to start, i marked this as an L and i was ok with it. didn't expect a comeback.
How about Seth Martinez going 3 scoreless, all too often that next pitcher that comes in after a a starter struggles ends up getting blown up as well and the game is effectively over.
