Here are couple of women that are glad to have concealed carry... saved both of their lives from this "unarmed" man.

Hawaii firearm deaths is very very low.

Sounds reasonable to me. I am fine with that. My concern is politicians that want “to do more” and go above and beyond or way beyond. Alot can be done in this country if we are just willing to meet in the middle and not be extremists on the left or the right But that’s the problem you’re gonna have people on the left that demand pretty much an outright ban or on the right that want not one inch more beyond what’s allowable now.

I think Hawaii has the right balance and I wish other states would be willing to say we’re not going to have everything our way but we’re going to at least have something in the middle that is meaningful

New Hampshire has about the most permissive gun laws in America and is the state with the lowest per capita homicide rate.

A New Gun Law Reflects the Worst Instincts of Both Parties
The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act increases the penalties for violating arbitrary firearm bans.

    https://reason.com/2022/07/20/a-new-gun-law-reflects-the-worst-instincts-of-both-parties/

    excerpt:

Until last month, someone with a felony record who obtained a gun was committing a federal crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison. Now he is committing two federal crimes, each punishable by up to 15 years in prison.

Contrary to what you may have read or heard, the story of how that happened is not an inspiring example of bipartisan cooperation to protect public safety. It is a dispiriting illustration of how the worst instincts of both major parties combine to produce policies that are neither just nor sensible.

Republicans like to look tough on crime but tend to be leery of gun control. Democrats, by contrast, are enthusiastic about gun control but tend to be leery of draconian criminal penalties that contribute to mass incarceration and have a disproportionate racial impact.

The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, which passed the Senate by unanimous consent and passed the House by a vote of 230 to 190, offered something to both sides. Republicans got tougher sentences, Democrats got more gun control, and both got to pretend they were doing something to prevent mass shootings.

How about this one from Pro-Business and Pro-Speech Texas Republicans? Reasonable gun laws to protect the gun industry from being "discriminated" against by the banking industry. Too bad it's costing Texans up to $500M in just 8M and will cost Texans $445m annually.

Texas crackdown on banks that ‘discriminate’ against guns backfires, costing taxpayers up to $500M (msn.com)

Texas lawmakers, frustrated with what they viewed as liberal political activism from some of the titans of American industry, banned banks last year from doing business with Texas municipalities unless they could certify to the state attorney general they don’t “discriminate” against the gun industry.

The Legislative Budget Board, which estimates the costs of proposed legislation, predicted no significant financial impact on the state or on local governments.

But in the first eight months since the law was enacted, local governments seeking to finance building projects through bonds — for instance school districts trying to build new football stadiums, cities looking to upgrade their airports — have already paid between $300 million and $500 million more in increased interest payments, according to a study from a University of Pennsylvania professor and a Federal Reserve economist based in Washington.

And the paper estimates the annual cost in higher interest payments will be around $445 million per year going forward, if nothing changes.

“There’s a cost to making this political statement. We can say that cost for Texas is between $300 million and $500 million dollars,” said Daniel Garrett, the professor.

The bill, SB19, was aimed at large banks that reconsidered their investment in the gun industry in the wake of the 2018 Stoneman Douglas High School shooting that left 17 dead. For instance, Bank of America refuses to fund companies that build military style rifles for civilian use. JP Morgan Chase won’t fund companies that sell guns to people under the age of 21. And Citigroup won’t fund those that don’t background-check all buyers.

There's still a lot of info out there regarding the CO Springs shooter including how he got the firearm but this seems like an argument for Red Flag laws given his history.
