The Nets FO is dumb, that trade makes even less sense now, 2023 draft is a deep draft with a lot of players that could be cornerstones, Houston is likely to be a bottom 3 or 5 team and if they are a bottom 3 team to you're at least going to get a pick from 1-5 and have your franchise player to build around.
That trade occurred prior to the announcement. And Durant went to the owner, not the GM. Really really bad timing on that one.
@Houston77 Utah gets the worst out of PHI,HOU and BKN 1st. Even if BKN ends up blowing it up, PHI would most likely be lower and that would be the pick that they send to Utah
Yup, impossible. Even if they trade him he would be the centerpiece of the kd deal for the nets, barnes plus picks isn’t bad
Nets really have nothing to lose holding out for the best value. Folks saying kd can pull a harden seem to forget that the nets wait a whole year for kd to recover from his injuries waiting ain't that big of a deal
It's in the Nets and KD's interest to get it done now. Father Time is ticking for Durant. BKN will want to move him quickly...selling into this.
It is better for the Rox if Nets drag it out, that means less prep for the Nets and a lot of confusion and uncertainty. If they stsrt the season with those two you know KD and Irving will be mentally checked out already and may even pull a Harden to get traded.
I seem to recall kd before he was drafted saying his favorite team was the raptors and his favorite player was tmac. He definitely took the tmac route of being hated by every city he played in. Toronto has amazing fans and a history that is open for the taking as a franchise best. If he wins there he'll be loved there bc in a lot of ways the kawhi ring seems kind of a fluke and easily forgettable like a borrowed championship with an amazing kawhi temporarily there and a completely injured finals opponent anyone could have beaten. Its a nice fit and nets rebuild with Barnes. The scenarios where Barnes is untouchable and they gut their roster for KD makes no sense for either.
Everyone on ESPN or whatever is all hung up on “oh well Brooklyn isn’t sure that Ayton is good enough of an asset etc etc” and then whole time I’m like… wait… doesn’t Phoenix have like all of their picks?? At least that’s what real gm shows. If Phoenix has all their picks I see no reason why Brooklyn can’t clean house on picks unprotected for god knows how long. With CP3 aging and the way things change in NBA I’m not entirely sure yet Brooklyn isn’t going to get a great deal in the end. Brooklyn isn’t winning a title with anything that’s available out there to trade for anyways. Even if they were to get Anthony Davis there’s no way him and Ben Simmons are carrying a team to the conference finals.
