Where would potential trade targets we might look at this season, but primarily for 2023 and beyond potential go? This thread or another one? I'm thinking of next year's Free Agents which might be leaving. Brantley, Gurriel, Diaz and Castro will need to be replaced or brought back. Also, Verlander and Odorizzi have player options they might or might not exercise.

But potential replacements brought aboard this year could strengthen the team for a playoff run.

Luhnow gave a very good template for how to do this.

BTW, I won't be upset if Click doesn't make any moves, because I don't think Dusty will ever win a championship.

I seen another article again offering Both Hosmer and Blake Snell and a pair of decent prospects to unload there salary's to get under the tax threshold.

JS guys this would be a perfect time to steal some players and gain some damn good players for a run. Prospects they would be willing to move would be a big big big plus

    Imagine this scenario

Eric Hosmer, Blake Snell and lets say 4 prospects
Luis Campusano, Robert Hassell III, Jackson Merrill and Estuery Ruiz

    for
???? we would need a cash dump atleast so i would think Jake Odorizzi would have to be apart of that maybe Maurico Dubon since they need some OF help Jason Castro that would help with the Cash alittle then maybe a Prospect or 2 IDK what it would take

But from what Ive read and seen They are desperate to dump some salary and willing to unload some of those HIgh prospects not named Abrams

THEY are desperate, we are not.

Snell - 16.6M in 23. We have 8 pitchers better and no room to put him.

Hosmer - Close to $50M for a replacement level 1B.

Are those prospects worth $65M-$70M? Somehow I doubt it.

First 39 Million is owed to Hosmer after this Year that's 13 M per 2023 to 2025
16 Million owed to Snell in 2023 then in 2024 he is a FA.

Prospects are Prospects but if you add in the 6.5 m in 2023 to Odorizzi 5m this year and Castro 3.5 Million this year and FA next year. Dubons 2 M this year and ARB the next 2 years we can eat those Contracts. and have trade fodder in the Offseason if they don't pan out.

the Prospects are rated High that's there 2 3 5 and low teens prospects to take all that money back which helps us replenish our system a little

Are they worth it time will tell. but what you could do as I said is trade them in the offseason Snell or Hosmer which they are both likeable players and wait and see on The prospects.

That's a good prospect package. But that's an expensive package. If it is a salary dump, I doubt Odorizzi is returned. It defeats the purpose. But who knows?

It's certainly the right prospects to match up. It still comes down to how much value they see in those prospects.

Campusano 36 on Top 100 MLB Catcher (Castro replacement)

Hassell 28 on Top 100 MLB OF (Brantley Replacement)

    Merrill ( 2025 Bregman Replacement)

    Ruiz utility OF (Diaz? Replacement)

That doesn't mean we don't want the players back, but you need potential replacements in the organization.

I added in remaining 2022 salary on Hosmer.

The question is not CAN we do it, but SHOULD we do it.

But thinking outside the box is a good thing.

Just to be accurate, Hosmer is owed $13 mil per through 2025 but his AAV and tax hit is at $18mil.

    That's $15 mil more.

Snell is $16.6 but his AAV and tax hit is only $10.

    +$8.4mil than previously represented.

Luhnow never won a World Series without Astros prospects that dominated.

Most of which he traded for or drafted

You've gotta supplement your prospects with trades.

The Astros are one of the teams talking to the Padres about Snell (don’t shoot the messenger) and they are talking to teams about bullpen arms.

just passing it along. From someone within the organization.

Snell is capable of being elite. I haven't watched him this year, but he's the type of guy if you can buy low and think your pitching coach can fix him... why not? It's easy to forget Verlander was declining so much that he cleared waivers back in 2017... and look where he is now.

Snell for McCormick seems like it might be a good swap for both teams.

Then the Astros could feel extremely comfortable shopping Urquidy and Odorizzi (or even Garcia/Javier if they went big game hunting).
