Joe Biden IS old. He is 79 years old. The reality is that it wouldn't matter if Joe Biden was Abraham Lincoln or FDR with all of the issues from COVID, to Ukraine, to inflation and a very divided government and country. In 2024 we are looking at a potential 82 year old (Biden) against a 78 year old (Trump) and I highly doubt the majority of the country will be happy about that, especially with so many boomers starting to die. The Gen X and Millen generation are starting to become the majority. The Republicans likely win the White House in 2024, but they would be a lot better off if they find some way to graciously have Trump let Governor DeSantis win the nomination. The reality is that the Democrats can criticize the policy positions of DeSantis, but they cannot really attack his qualifications or personal accomplishments. I do not agree with Governor DeSantis on MANY social issues, but I do believe that he would win in a General Election and I do not see any candidates ready in 2024 to beat him (although there are some coming down the pipeline). The only way I see the Republicans losing is if Trump doesn't get the nomination and runs as a third party, which is quite possible if for some reason he doesn't have the GOP by the neck. Donald Trump was utterly unqualified to be President, he is a scoundrel, a liar and arguably a criminal - but he is the most important Politician in the Republican Party since at least Reagan and from an actual influence perspective, a lot like Andrew Jackson.
I listen occasionally to see where the Repups get their wierd ideas. Is Fox pushing this line about the hearing being just a distraction? Is Tulsi planning to run again for something as a Republican?
Agree with about 99% of this I do think the Republicans stand a chance to lose if Trump is the nominee though. I wouldn't discount how much moderates in the midwest hate Trump, and if he is the candidate many of those people won't come out to vote at all. To win a state like Pennsylvania, the Republicans need moderates to come and vote for them, moderates staying home is good for the Democrats, especially in the political climate we are in now And as you say, if Trump runs as a third party, the Democrats win easily. It wouldn't surprise me if Trump did just that too, if he loses the nomination. Trump doesn't care about his constituents, he cares about the power he feels while being President, hell even the rush he gets running for President. If he truly wanted to still be the President, he would have just put down his phone in 2019
Trump could have done great with the economy, been a civil rights champion, strengthened our ties with every single American ally, persuaded the Saudis to not murder journalists and do a 180 regarding rights for women and rights LGBTQ. None of that would change what he tried to do to the election. They absolutely do know that there was no fraud enough to change the election of 2020. They know it for a fact. There were actual audits where they hand counted the votes, there were dozens of investigations which were carried out by Republicans and groups aligned with Trump. They were from numerous agencies Federally and at the state and county levels. Ivanka Trump didn't believe that the election was stolen. Trump's appointed AG didn't believe the election was stolen. Trump's lawyer that put forward the idea of alternate Trump electors knew the election wasn't stolen. They all made sure Trump himself knew the election wasn't stolen. It isn't both sides saying different things about 2020 being stolen. Both sides are actually saying it was not stolen. Only Trump and those that believed his lies are still claiming it was stolen. Every person who has looked at the evidence, audits, recounts, and investigations know it wasn't stolen. A broader look at Trump's approval ratings throughout his one term, Trump's lack of outreach to grow his base makes sense that a logical conclusion. You don't have to listen to Democrats to know the 2020 election wasn't stolen. All you have to do is listen to Trump's own inner circle to know that it wasn't stolen.
There is no reason to believe that the 2020 election was changed by voter fraud. In fact there is LESS reason to believe that the 2020 election was changed by voter fraud because it was investigated more than any election in modern US history. Indeed it wasn't even an issue except the President at the time decided that he could potentially not have to turn over the presidency by crying wolf. Anyone that believes that Donald Trump won the 2020 election wears a tin foil hat or is an idiot. That was part of it. The economy was part of it, his response to COVID was part of it. The inequality in the USA grew when he was President. It is very hard to know how well a President does economically in a 4 year span, as his policies take longer to make an impact. Both sides like to credit their parties sitting President when the economic view is positive. Agreed.
I'm just curious why you think Republicans are favored to win unless there's some crazy Trump spoiler? Are you just basing that off of the likely recession and voters just blaming who is in power? Keep in mind that millions of millennial voters have just recently become eligible to vote, and quite a few boomers have left this earth. Then there is the Roe overturning and single issue women voters as well as the upcoming likely issue of overturning gay marriage. Then there is the issue of guns. Then there is the fact that the GOP is becoming extremely extreme, etc. etc. IMO as long as voters are engaged to turn out, it's going to be tough for the Republicans to win any national election. I don't think the Democrats in their lack of organization and personality skills are strong enough to still not step on their own toes, but unless there's some unforeseen issues or something unprecedented like a huge recession, I don't see how every election won't at least be very close either way. Not disagreeing with you necessarily, but interested in you to maybe tell a bit more about what makes you think that. Thanks.
I don't watch much Fox, but I am constantly surrounded by those who do, and what they say is basically what The Beard has been saying today. Which is essentially elections are always rigged, Dems are just as bad, etc. etc. It's pretty crazy that the topic they actually are prepared to actually debate instead of deflect is the overturning of Roe. They've got their talking points on that, and Fox is doing everything they can to upskill their talking points. But on Jan 6th, it seems to be nothing but deflect, whataboutism, and hope it blows over. Just the other day Tulsi had one of those moments on air I saw where she maybe was unscripted or something and had a moment where she basically sunk back into her previously held progressive positions. I don't know what her end game is but for whatever reason I just see someone who has some sort of motive to be as engaged as possible with Trumpers. However she endorsed Biden and every once in awhile settles back into where I think she wants to be on the issues, but for whatever reason wants to hold court with the MAGA base. Not sure what her agenda is long term.
People say neither side really cares about the people, I mostly agree with that. It's a giant machine and neither side wants to rock the boat. The ruling class is what it is. But anybody that says democrats are "just as bad" as republicans is a complete f**king idiot.
The economy is bad (it wasn't great under Trump either IMO), there is inflation that is beyond anything most people alive have seen, gas prices are the highest in nearly 50 years. There is a genuine housing crisis that isn't being discussed but has impacted a lot of Americans. On top of it there is going to start being reports of issues at the border. Right now there are too many things happening but it will become an issue again. Also a lot of Gen Mill are frustrated with the direction of the Democratic Party and will not blindly follow it like some in the past. The Democratic Party is also listless right now. The issue of LGBTQ rights is a wedge issue that a lot of the older Gen X and living Boomers are not going to be overly enthusiastic about. Guns are an issue but they are not going anywhere and I don't think that it will be a big enough issue (yet). I think there is going to be a backlash to US politics and a turn to the left, but not by 2024. I would bet a large amount of money that a Republican wins in 2024.
Unless some crazy all out war starts. It seems like in the past when a war is going on, the current president gets re-elected most, if not, all of the time.
Power corrupts. Going from lukewarm pres candidate to civilian is jarring for many, so she's fine doing the book deal/talk circuit until she gets another crack at things. Makes more money on paper compared to a gov salary anyways... As for her endgame, she is done politically unless she can find a brand and following out of state
Yeah I actually didn't hate her 2020 strategy to essentially do what Trump did in 2016 to the Republicans but it just came off as nasty, vindictive, and she lacked the gravitas to put on a reality tv show the way Trump did in 16. Before she ran, and had a strategy to run, she was basically a Bernie dem that only really had questions about what was her reasoning for the Assad PR job. Something will always seem off about that turn.... even though her platform then was universal healthcare, etc etc. Basically a progressive wish list. I think she played a part in a play in 2020 to try a strategy and then quickly got a following on the MAGA right, and now she's trying to figure out if she can milk it without just straight up switching parties, and having to act like she wasn't a democratic socialist for years.
Hillary and her clique didn't like her. Tulsi feels she was unfairly nipped in the bud. If she aired that in public, then I don't know what else happens behind the scenes. Mostly though, she wasn't as popular as she thought she was, but Plan B is a great option with her good looks. A book deal and 10 "speeches" is enough to net 3-5 million over five years. In theory, congressmen make that much over an average tenure lol... People complain of a swamp but ask its beneficiaries to drain it... Works for me. Who's playin wut tonight. My fantasy league is off to a bad start!!
