The one thing this witness has made clear is why Trump and Meadows do not want to testify under oath.

Meadows has financial reasons also, since when testifying under oath, he'd have to contradict what he wrote in his book. So whatever sales he gets from that would also be reduced.

I bet Trump is blowing a gasket right now. He and his henchmen are probably scrambling as we speak to slam Cassidy for spilling the beans. He damn well knew her, but will act like she was a nobody. Hell, her office was seconds away from the Oval Office.

Anyone surprised about all the tantrums he threw? The man child never changed from the spoiled kid raised on a silver spoon. I want to hear that Secret Service guy speak up about that day! Show us how you face pressure and don't be a coward!! You owe Traitor Trump nothing!! If witness tampering us happening those witnesses need to speak out. Mob tactic pressure is something Rudy used to be against. He went from a take down the mob hero to a Trump loyalist mob acting zero.

Just imagine being in a position as a Trumper to know that you have to task yourself to go out there today and propagate that "Both sides are equally corrupt and OMG Biden is old and needs notes!!!!" therefore.... (don't vote for Dems I guess...).

How little self respect do you have to sit there and task yourself to go do that after hearing this sh$t??

I think the both sides are bad is a logical reaction when it becomes clear that a side or person you supported is wrong, lied, and fooled you.

It isn't easy for people to face that they were fooled, so their minds start spinning trying to find ways to rationalize it. The easiest way is to say well okay my guy was bad, but they are all bad so my bad choice is no worse than all of the other people's bad choices.

It is just human nature. But clearly when they resort to that, they know the real deal. Hopefully, over time they'll be able to accept the reality at least to some degree.

Right. True Trumplicans either think every witness is lying or 'so what'.

There are some truly special people on the right, but most of them hear it but immediately have the mental muscle memory to deflect and seek out talking points nightly from Fox. I know these people and I know they are all active participants at this point.

They know that they really don't care for true Democracy. They know they are in a crisis for credibility with their beliefs, and without that credibility they'll have to resort more and more towards admitting and embracing what their political ideology actually is... which is a belief and campaign to change America into an autocracy.

When I was raised in the church, I knew that science disproved things like the 7 day creation story, but because you are so invested in that ideology, you train your brain to be able to hear something that comes your way, and immediately deflect, defend, over-explain, etc. etc.

Exactly. See my experience growing up in the church and being prepared to answer to things like the 7 day creation story, etc. In this case though I just really can't see being this invested in Trump of all things. It's one thing to be invested in your faith, and especially balancing the good things that come from Christianity (or used to come from it when it was less cancerous with politics), but to me this one (loyalty to Trump) just seems like an easy one to ditch especially when you know there is a convey belt of wing nuts right behind him you can hitch your wagon to.

Yes, true. Sadly, I think some people are that invested.

A friend's sister and husband lived in Oregon, sold their place and bought one in Arkansas without ever seeing it on person or having jobs there because they wanted to be away from liberals. I'm sure there are tons of stories like this. Some people are more invested than I could ever contemplate.

These hearings will not sway the majority of his base but I hope some republicans are smart enough to realize this guy is nuts, everyone wants to lie for this goon, and the the folks at fox were all in bed with him..........they could not script these hearings any better, and yes, now you have to prosecute him or what happens the next time. What blows me away is if a few things changed they might have gotten away with this, that is just scary to think about, not only should he not be able to run for office again, his ass needs to be in jail

All I know is any Republicans who haven't spoken out or condemned what Trump did are no better than him. To not condemn a President who not only tried to steal an election, but wanted to allow armed thugs to storm in, to hang Mike Pence and stop the certification, then you don't stand for truth or Democracy at all.

You are no better than the party of Putin or Kim Jung-un. I'm so disgusted that only a few Republicans in that party actually have any morals, courage, and respect for the truth about what happened that day, and the oath they took to serve this country, and not bow to a man like Trump.

The Republicans at the top look cowardly for not stepping up and supporting their staffers that have the courage to come forward. They should have been leading since they are supposed to be leaders, but now they are just silent and not even supporting these people who have demonstrated so much more courage than they have.

They could have shot up Pelosi and hung Pence and people still would be saying this was not a big deal compared to a BLM protest.

We're going to (hopefully) be able to look back at this and be astounded that tens of millions of people supported this moronic, violent TV game show host and that an entire political party was in his thrall. It's incredible how many people are willing to sell out the foundations of this country for his sake.

you'd think they would have learned from Blasey Ford not to take these absurd-sounding uncorroborated fantasies seriously

if you're the J6 committee, how do you not allow these people to testify without losing all credibility?

And if they testify that it didn't happen, the committee looks just as bad.
