Shame this has to put a wet blanket when the Rockets had a pretty decent draft. Not thrilled with Jabari at 3, but was the right pick. Eason at 17 is a steal.
Need a catcher and center fielder. I guess you have to keep Yuli and hope for the best. Just a bad game for bullpen. Suit up and win tomorrow
That's irrelevant to what you said: Pressly should never close another game for the Astros again. Being up 6-3 in the 9th and blowing it is absolutely inexcusable. You said blowing a 3 run lead is inexcusable and therefore the Astros' all-star closer should never close a game again. I'm curious who you'd replace him with and if they've ever had an inexcusable blown 3 run lead in their life. As far as him being terrible all year, prior to today, he had an ERA around 2.40 with 14 saves and 2 blown saves and had given up 2 runs over the last 6 weeks. That's a weird definition of "terrible all year".
He did that last year to the Padres. Same BS. He's not a closer and he never has been. I don't care what the stats say. This year he has been horrendous. Every other save he's walking 1-2 guys, giving up hits, getting bailed out with double plays and great defense. He's atrocious.
Usually, all closers and relievers in general, get got every now and then. But something has been off with him. What if he's hurt and "toughing it out" that's worse than giving up a 3 run lead as it keep the entire 9 in limbo. Wasted goes Alejandro and Yordan's homer, Tucker's catch, Altuve's hot night, Valdez's win.
Exactly, closers will have an off night here or there. Anyone that thinks Pressly is playing like an "All-Star" or just had an off night is delusional. You haven't been watching the games if you think that. Every time he goes out there he's stressing me out, giving up bullet base hits, praying for his defense to bail him out with DPs and nice plays.
Bad night for the closer but if we keep playing like we have, we will win 100 games. We have a great team and need a few tweaks. Suit up and get them tomorrow. Big test is how we respond tomorrow.
Most of the good ones do. In terms of league leaders in saves, Hader hasn't. Hendricks, Bard, Rogers and Jansen have all done it multiple times over the last few years. Romero has done it this year; Diaz did it last year. That's all the closers who have as many or more saves this year than Pressly.
We are talking about blowing a 3 run lead in the 9th right? There's a difference between that and giving up 3 runs. Neither is good, one is worse. Romano has not blown a 3 run lead this year. Try again. Jansen did not blow a 3 run lead last year. Try again. Diaz did not blown a 3 run lead last year. Try again. Bard did it once last year. Rogers did it once last year. Pressly has blown 2 3 run leads in the 9th over the past 63 games. Sorry, that's not good enough. Don't sit here telling me not to be mad about his putrid performance. It was a ****ing choke job, trash performance by him. He's not right. He hasn't looked right in awhile. Every other save he's walking 1-2 guys, giving up hits, getting bailed out with double plays and great defense.
Well no doubt about that. I don't feel overly confident but I would be ecstatic if they bounced back over the next 3 games and proved me wrong.
Prior to today, he had 16 save opportunities (14-2 in them) and 6 walks. Your math is fascinating. He also hasn't been terrible. He's an all-star closer and will get the benefit of the doubt. He's been better at his job than, say, our all-star 3rd baseman was at his until the last week or two. Proven star players get opportunities to work through their issues - you don't banish them permanently for a bad performance.
The walks came in bunches though, all 6 walks came in 3 outings, now 8 in 4. The big difference between Bregman and Pressley is that Bregman still had elite K/BB ratios, he wasn't stuck in his own head or demolishing how he played. Pressley's peripherals were awful all year and had good stats in spite of his pitching. What about Yuli? He's been awful all year and has lost his bat speed, you think he's going to figure out how not to be a .215 hitter with no power and a sub .300 OBP at age 38? Father Time is undefeated. See what we have in the minors with our big division lead when it comes to both the bullpen and any underpreformers in the lineup.
Keep deflecting buddy. INCLUDING TODAY, he has 17 opportunities and 8 walks, which is about 1 every other game... He's also given up 18 hits. Not exactly lockdown closer stuff. The difference between Bregman sucking and Pressly sucking is much, much, much different. I shouldn't really need to explain that. Also, I never said to banish him permanently. I said he's not a real closer and he never has been. Just because Click slapped a closer salary on him doesn't make him one.
