Agreed. Not to mention that neither of them is a proven defensive commodity in the league yet. Super optimistic on both though.
Just watched a guy do his latest Mock Draft on youtube and he listed all 30 first round picks and had Rockets selecting the following: #3 - Paolo Banchero (6'10") #17 - Tari Eason (6'8") #26 - MarJon Beauchamp (6'6") If that's who the Rockets walk away with I think Clutchfans will literally go into a frenzy and override the server.
Yes, he has lost some weight. I forgot that. He's a bit short but he makes it up with his long arms, high energy and toughness. He does rely a bit too much on blocking shots, but he can switch out too. I would take him at 26.
OP made a similar thread last year for alperen sengun and we all love him on CF, OP either works in the rockets FO or he is very good at spotting talent the team needs.
I don’t want Beauchamp at #26. He is almost 22 years old and I don’t think he is really good at anything. I would rather have Jovic, Terry, Williams, Wesley, Christie or ideally Hardy. I get wanting a wing but he isn’t my favorite. He got a green room invite though so he should go top 20-25. Terry is someone that could be gone by the teens. San Antonio likes him.
I have a lot of respect for you, but don't you think Beauchamp is a better defender than Jovic or Hardy? I do like Terry. If he and Ousmane are selected in the teens then Tari could fall to 17.
Yes, Beauchamp is a better defender than Jovic and likely Hardy too. However I don't think that Beauchamp is an especially good defender and he isn't terribly great at anything else. I think he is an NBA bench player but I don't think he will get a lot of time on a good team ever unless he really improves (which is the case for anyone). Hardy and Jovic have more upside to me and have skills that are more likely to translate to the NBA level.
Hardy over Jovic for me, if I have to choose between them. Jovic is an amazing passer, he is a poor defender to say the very least. We need defenders to lessen the pressure on Sengun and Banchero.
I like Liddell at #26 too but more and more I'm leaning towards drafting 7'0 wing John Butler. Butler has better 3ball shooter, longer and has more upside as ball handler and rim protector. Butler also provides different defensive prototype to Garuba-Eason-Liddell.
I saw Butler play in the combine scrimmages. He certainly can can shoot. Especially for a guy that size. Good weak side shot blocker too but he's a good ways away from being ready to play in the NBA.
I wouldn't hate gambling on Hardy. He was a top3 prospect before the year started and it could've just been a bad fit for him in that team. The problem is that I kinda want us to take a wing at 17 and he wont be there at 26. If somehow he makes it to 26, which i doubt, he'd be a nice pickup that late in the draft.
Agreed. Butler is a project. But #26 likely traded or not getting much play time anyway - Vipers bound.
Eason looks great. I doubt we can get him at 17. He has a crazy low release with mild chicken wing. That needs to be tweaked
I didn't hear it all, but its mostly the way you configure the lineup. The playoffs are to far down the road to consider a fit. When I watch Banchero, he looks like a small forward to me. That's why I think they should view him as a 3 who is big enough to play 4. Who can't he match up with at the 3 besides the obvious ,but Durant,LeBron and those guys are on the back end of their career. Thats another reason why I think you anchor those 2 with a Koloko at 26, sign Bamba, or trade up to get Duren if he falls past 7. Get a tall agile center who can't not only be a rim protector, but be defensive stopper and aid Banchero and Sengun.
Speaking to that point with Banchero he views himself in that fashion as well and I can certainly see it. “There are a lot of guys. Obviously, there is a couple that I really try to take things away from,” Banchero said when asked about who he models his game after. “LeBron [James], Jayson Tatum, Giannis [Antetokounmpo], Carmelo [Anthony]. Guys who got similar physical build. But I also feel like I am unique in my own ways. I take parts from all of their games and try to put them into mine. I couldn’t give you one player but I am definitely inspired by some of those guys.”
