Ok, I will plead ignorance on that. I just don't think anything he does is special, not saying he can't refine those skills, but I think he might be overrating himself, nothing wrong with that but I don't see him getting to a better situation for growth.
An 11-page thread about KMJ wanting more minutes ... hurry up draft... package him up - maybe we'll get his replacement.
I don't know what the end result of this will be but it will tell a lot about how good our FO is. Great FOs realize great young talent and keep it. Now, KJM could very be what he is now for the rest of his career, a decent depth player and nothing more...but I could also see him developing into one of those key role players that every team loves to have. These are the kind of players you want on team friendly deals and not players you want to be trading assets for during a later championship run. While Wood is whatever, you have to be careful getting rid of 21 year old players that have flashed like he has. A real decision will have to be made between KJ and Tate and whoever else they draft
Wasn't he terrible for half the season? When he was terrible, I said he was terrible, when he improved, I celebrated his improvement.
I totally get what you're saying, but I just don't believe the numbers are informative even for those who improved over the season. All they are telling me is that KJ Martin looked bad defensively on the worst defensive team in the NBA which sucked at interior defense, point of attack, switching, everything. I accept that description. He could turn out to be a horrible defender. AFAIC the right call is: we don't know yet and he hasn't had a chance to prove he can be a reliable team defender.
KPJ has the court vision of a dog with that circle thing on his head. Not only is his court vision not good, but his court instincts are poor also. Basically with him and Green you have Francis and Mobley over again. Green is better at doing what he will do than KPJ. In the nba its about getting good shots in 4 minute stretches and at the end. Being a lead guard ,that is what you do unless someone has that responsibility.
Love KPJ as a scoring guard. Really dont like him running the floor for team. And it’s hard for me to understand why folks are so resistant to having a true creator on the court; one that takes care of the ball, creates plays for his teammates, and knocks down shots. Let KPJ do what he’s best at; score off the dribble or knock down shots. He’s not magic Johnson.
If you tell a human he's a fish, he's going to feel stupid everyday. On offense, KJ is a putback, corner 3 and slasher guy. His % on open 3's is HIGHLY encouraging. When he entered the league, he was a 0 from there. He has two seasons of 35%+ from there which I thought would take him a few more years to reach. He is never going to be scouted. Pj Tucker takes 90% of his shots from the corner 3 spot, scout him all you want, he's doing that. On defense, he is perfectly suited to guard 3's and small 4's. Anyways, this is too much discussion for a player who is frankly not critical to the future. I think in the MDA years when we went to full-on maximum switching and some good defenders became bad and some bad defenders became great, I understood that defense is not as simple as whether someone is who they were last season. If it's possible, I'd give him another shot. We're a team least interested in winning among 30 NBA teams. If anyone can take a flyer, it's us.
No...I said he was bad when he was bad. That's not "jumping the gun", it's just saying the way things are. Saying the way things are isn't saying that's how they'll always be.... and I understand that some fail to grasp that concept, but there's not much you can do to help those types.
Which part? I pretty clearly did both. When he was bad I pointed out that he was bad and people pretended he wasn't. When he improved, I praised his improvement and people pretended he was always good. Both times there was significant whining, so I don't see how you could have missed it.
I really don't care what type of PG the Rockets have provided he does something to make games easier for teammates. This can be done by scoring a lot efficiently causing defense to cave in on him. By creating a lot for others with a low turnover rate. By playing such great defense it helps out team as a whole. If KPJ can score like he did at end of last season, I'd be happy with him at PG. Though, the rest of time at PG suggests that may have just been a short hot streak. As such, I agree that I think he'd be better off the ball so he can get his scoring efficiency up now that he's hitting threes.
if it were up to me he’d be on the block too but not for cheap. His value will be determined by what he signs for next season.
he deserved to be playing and starting last season I do not blame him you started matthew instead off him was beyond me someone who rookie season who was blocking shots making huslte plays and contributing and you pass him up for matthew come on the only way i replace him is if we look at 26 or 17 with a small forward that has equal to his production or better so idk who that would be unless you get jovic or Houstan in the latter round
Almost stopped reading at "don't think KPJ is talented enough to get special treatment. Did stop reading at "Get a true PG". There wasn't a true point guard in the conference finals or finals this year. There aren't very many of them even left in the league. And the best teams are all playing combo guards and even three combo guard lineups. Catch up with the times my dude.
