I said that the DAs are releasing violent criminals and they are then committing murders. If you havent heard about these incidents then you are purposely avoiding those stories. I did not say that multiple time murderers are being released. Though, there are cases of alleged murderers being released and then committing more. @tinman has a thread about these violent criminals being released on low bonds by liberal judges.

LOL you think Jackson Mississippi is a liberal bastion?

    Or Birmingham Alabama?

    Those are one city.

I like how you added an assumed "violent" criminals now. My original response to you was calling out that there's a big difference in releasing criminals with murderers. That was kind of my point that there's a big difference there.

FYI it was Donald Trump who passed a bipartisan federal bill to reduce sentences. So when you are to the right of Donald Trump on criminal reform that's saying that maybe this take is not generally popular, and the Democratic cities that are enacting some measures to get people out of jail that have far beyond served their time is actually just acting on general consensus.

Sure after changes like this are made to fix a problem some problems can be created that need to be tweaked, but the fact is virtually everyone agrees that our criminal justice system needs changes to ensure people are put away for stupid reasons, and that they aren't exploited by a for profit, and often racist jailing industry that we subsidize with our tax dollars.

So again... the notion that Democrats are "soft of crime" is stupid. If Democrats are soft on crime, Donald Trump sure as hell is just as soft given that it was one of his only two accomplishments and his only bipartisan accomplishment in 4 years.

That's exactly what I was thinking.... like when the hell did Jackson Mississippi become Portland or Seattle??? I know I avoid those two horrible states with a passion, but I do drive through from time to time, and I don't recall Pride Parades and Lilith Fair music festivals and whatnot.

I hate to be that guy, but I THINK he's actually just talking about black people though... which in my experience isn't even all that accurate. Yeah... there are more black people there than in Orange Beach, but it's not like it's that much different racially than areas such as the suburbs south of Houston like say for example League City, or Dickinson. What is different about League City vs Jackson, MS historically has to be access to higher paying jobs in the greater Houston area... which.... is a Democratic run city in a Red State... which throws his whole theory by the wayside.... unless he wants to start making a case that Houston is actually a hell hole city which... probably won't be a popular opinion around these parts.

This whole inner city crime discussion ignores the fact that crime is on the rise in rural areas across the country too.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/06/10/blame-rural-crime-wave/

Violent crime isn’t just rising in the nation’s cities. Murder rates across the rural U.S. have soared during the pandemic, data show, bringing the kind of extreme violence long associated with major metropolises to America’s smallest communities.

Homicide rates in rural America rose 25% in 2020, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It was the largest rural increase since the agency began tracking such data in 1999.

    ...

So how do we explain this? None of the things conservatives blame for crime — progressive prosecutors, lenient Democratic politicians, police feeling disrespected by racial justice protests, a lack of religious piety — are present in these places.

This cannot be good for the Democrats prospects in the upcoming election in November. A majority of Democrats blame Biden and his regime for inflation. Ouch.

Poll: Majority Of Democrats Say Runaway Inflation Is Biden’s Fault

More than half of U.S. Democrats believe that President Joe Biden’s policies caused the nation’s record-high inflation.

A new poll from Issues & Insights and TIPP found that approximately 53 percent of blue voters blame Biden, his administration, and his agenda for May’s 8.6 percent year-over-year increase in essential goods and services costs that are plaguing Americans.

it’s obvious that voters would blame Biden for inflation…only out of touch party apologists would be surprised by those poll results

Biden’s approval rating among Democrats has been slipping for months

You say that, but your posts certainly seem to display the opposite.
I think it would be great if all the cities over 1 million population joined together in one state, and just keep the remaining lines as they are. Welcome to the 98-2 Senate. Parts of California have tried and are trying to get away from the cities. Jefferson (proposed Pacific state) - Wikipedia
A photo op, probably. What is the governor going to do at a crime scene where the crime is already over and the suspect has already been killed? He is there to try to get re-elected. This should be very obvious.
It isn't a great party, but it is better than the alternatives. Deregulation is good, generally speaking.
I would say it has never really been tried outside of pre-history. Once you had warlords or kings, we never really went back. Probably Hong Kong before it was returned to China is the closest.
Where are all these failed libertarian societies?
Oh, I am much more on the side of the modern Republicans than the modern Democrats, I make claims otherwise. If I am going to be getting screwed either way, I would at least like it to be from the people that give me some lube first. I don't think I have ever defended Trumpism (whatever that is). I defend smaller more localized government, personal responsibility and accountability, respect for law and order, low taxes, low regulations, etc. In other words a general libertarian philosophy. Not full anarcho-capitalist, but perhaps minarchist or classical liberal. When it came time to vote, I have the dubious privilege of living in a state where the winning candidate is going to have a margin of several million, so I can make purely ideological votes without regard to game theory. So I get the benefit of voting my conscience, but the detriment of always losing.
I know the general patterns I have observed, especially with regard to my local jurisdiction and what is put out there nationally. I couldn't tell you specifically what every DA or Police Chief or Mayor's policy in America is. I do know that the modern trend in the Democratic Party Nationally has been toward an increased focus on rehabilitation and away from incarceration. Do you have some examples of local Democrats that are tougher on crime than other candidates they opposed?

As Reeko said, this is not surprising. Politics is "what have you done for me lately", and fair or not Inflation is happening on Biden`s watch. I dont care who is in charge I don't necessarily buy that train of thought but it is what it is. Its all about how do you try and fix it, a good analogy is Covid, that was not trump`s fault, but the way he reacted to it cost him the re-election. I hear every GOP lawmaker complain about everything but they NEVER have a solution.............still waiting on that trump healthcare plan.

Rural areas have been hit very hard by the meth and opiod crisis also. Poverty is also a long term problem too in some very red rural areas such as West Virginia.

I understand the schaudenfraude of pointing to areas dominated by political parties that you don't agree with but I think it is still important to remember that the heart of Applachia and Watts are all still America. Leaders of any party should be looking to help people in both place instead of pointing fingers.

This was my original post that you keep calling out. I am not sure how I referenced "repeat murderers" but if you interpret my post that way then we have a misunderstanding. Misunderstandings happen all the time and I hope I have clarified. I should have quantified the level of offense but I did not mean repeat murderers or repeat jaywalkers.

The hypocrisy montage you've been waiting for. Or fearing.

ADDED: Why did the GOP take so long to put this together? Did the Gillum arrest finally light a fire under their sedentary ass? (The reference to Gillum comes at 9:48.) It's just amazing that they let Democrats go on so long about how horrible it is to deny the results of an election. They've been allowed to deny that they too are deniers. They've been denier deniers.

And has any Democrat, or really any US politician, gone to the lengths that the last President did to stay in power?

There is a lot of truth to this and Democrats have had a much harder time maintaining discipline and focus than Republicans. This applies not just to Democratic leaders but to Democratic voters.

Republicans had a very strong focus on overturning the courts and controlling elections at all levels. This was a goal that long predates Trump and explains a lot of why people like Lindsey Graham and Cruz who have publicly despised Trump have still been so willing to support him. Graham said it himself he doesn't believe the Republicans can regain the majority without Trump and controlling the majority is all important.

Mind you that info is based on the GOP group that funded smear campaigns against her and Madison Cawthorn to get other candidates on the ballot on Nov in vulnerable seats.

But yeah I know… Trumpers NEVER read sh$t on Twitter about a Democrat that’s false and repeat it. That’s only a Democrat problem I know.

Kinda interested to hear why you feel like you need to stand up for Lauren Boebert too. Please tell me why you are so adamant about supporting her and her policies??

I will keep saying this that if Democrats want to reverse things this will take a decades long effort like the Republicans have done and it begins with winning elections at all levels.

I find it somewhat sad that so many Democrats / Progressives seem to get offended when when people keep on pointing out that the answer is to vote, and to vote in every single election even if it is just school board. Many say things like we elected Biden and a Democrat majority so why haven't things changed? Or that since Obama had a supermajority and Biden has a majority and things are getting worse voting doesn't matter.

What the Republicans have done isn't something that just came about in one or two elections and certainly not Presidential elections. It is something that has been in the works since 80's. It predates Trump, MAGA, or the Tea Party. Trump wasn't the creator of the current situation but happened to be an opportunity that McConnell and others have been waiting for and without the decades of work from voting at every single leve Trump would've never been able to appoint the justices he did or even come close to even attempting to overturn the election.

Democrats on the other hand look to big wins and expect swift change. They tend to feel that once we have the Presidency a lot of things should change and it's the fault of weak compromised leadership from Obama, Biden or Clinton that more doesn't get done. Those weren't perfect Presidents but the truth is without longterm of control of Congress particulary the Senate their hands are very tied. Even in a supermajority that Obama held for just a few months it is very fragile. Kennedy's death, the hold up with Franken's election meant that there was actually not that much time that the Democrats had a supermajority. Also a majority in the senate is made up by at least 50 individual senators with their own agendas. As much as people now bellyache about Manchin and Sinema, in 2009 there was John Breux and other Democrat Senators from Red States who weren't completely into the Obama agenda. For that matter Republicans are outrightly threatening 'RINO"s in their own party.

To make long term change requires long term effort at every level of elected politics. Consider how much Republicans contest state house elections or even school boards. We're seeing now how important school boards are when they are banning what books kids can read in their school library. State legislatures can decide on federal US Representatives districts and as we have recently seen have a lot of control over how votes are conducted, even in states with Governors of a different party.

Besides that you can't build up a farm system of candidates without having a lot of people elected to lower offices.

It's not something that many want to hear because they perceive the changes that the USSC or state congressional maps as suddenly coming out of nowhere. These have been in the works since before many of those protesting outside the USSC were born.

If Democrats / Progressives want to make the same changes it will take the same commitment that the Republicans have made.

I'm still at a loss of why we treat politics like it's a team sport. If you forced me to decide I'm Liberal.

But I'm an American first. We're supposed to be on the same team.
