for some people (in this thread) who were HYPER critical of Green's defense this year it interesting to see them lobby for AJ Griffin. This dude looks like absolute BBQ chicken on defense. I'm talking like the type of bbq chicken that histpers in austin would camp days in line for.
I think he could be a good get. He seems to have a good work ethic and has family who played pro. I think that's super helpful for a young player to have.
I forget where I saw this, but a good metric for 3 point success in the NBA is free throws because you get a good sense of how well their form is.
League3pt distance NBA23 ft 9 inFIBA, WNBA, NCAA22 ft 1+3⁄4 in ----- Defense is a concern. Have also heard because of the injury, people could be sleeping on him if he slips very low in the draft. But me reading CF, didn't realize people were so passionate about AJ.
I figure this is in response to my stat about 25+ foot three pointers. While the NBA line is 23'9", the vast majority of above the break threes are taken from at least 25 feet. Here are some shot chart examples from high volume shooters, with a mix of primary scorers and catch and shoot guys: https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/mccolcj01/shooting/2022 https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/h/harrijo01/shooting/2021 https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/e/edwaran01/shooting/2022 https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/millspa02/shooting/2022 https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/t/tatumja01/shooting/2022 https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/b/banede01/shooting/2022 https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/r/robindu01/shooting/2022 As you can see, there tends to be about a 1 foot "dead zone" where few shots are attempted.
Wasn't to you directly. Was for me somewhat, as I thought NCAA was equal to WNBA and FIBA, but had to look it up to confirm. Which reminds me, Paolo's 3pt is 34% near / at the college 3pt line, but the deeper ones is 32%, so if he comes to the NBA plus possibly adjusting for the 1ft dead zone that you mentioned means he needs to practice more. 30-32% 3pt shooters for the Rockets last year included Schroder, Tate, and Nwaba. If the scouting gets out there, that's another player Rockets has to worry about defenders sagging.
Having a knock down threat on the wing is huge. No need to trade up. Just take Baldwin Jr at 26. Fully aware of the down year and the combine results, but watch the tape. There's a reason he was the #1 recruit in the country heading into his senior year.
