Yeah, if you pay a deposit, they don't run any credit check.

    This is getting ridiculous.....

My previous provider's contract ended last month (24 months with a $0.065 / KWH). Best rate I could find here recently was $0.16/KWH average for 12 months. Got my first bill with usage of 3234 KWH and it was $671.00, averages out to about $0.20/KWH with all the bullshit fees they bundle in.

I feel sick to my stomach now. Any suggestions other than $10,000+ to add solar panels?

That’s nuts! Can you get an home energy audit?

3234 KWh? You must live in a nice big house and/or keep the A/C at 70 degrees. I dunno.

If I ever hit that in my house, then I'd be sh!ting a brick!

Did you get burned by the fine print?

If the guy in your avi was President we'd all be paying less for energy...but that's for D&D, my bad.

I also had to renew this week for 16 cents, it's awful. I chose a plan with the lowest cancellation fee possible, and I will keep checking for rates every month until they go back to non-crazy levels, if that ever happens.

That is an absolutely massive power draw. Are you mining bitcoin or something?

There are three households on "my" bill, and it's about half of what you're using in kwh.

Your usage is nuts for the "average" home. I'm single, no kids, and kind of stingy with AC usage, but not much and my usage was something like 1200 kWh in a 2900 sq. ft. home. I keep the AC around 76/74. I'm not sure if you have a pool or other stuff going on at your house or how big your house is, but that 3234 kWh usage is pretty big unless you're living in a really big house.

Depending on how big your house is or its usage, I'd go get an energy audit done or something. BTW, is your current plan/rates online somewhere where it can be viewed?

$0.038 and pleased to be on the eastern grid part of Texas. ERCOT sounds like a hot ****ing mess right now...

lol. That's what's funny. I think the average rate in Texas was about middle-of-the-pack for the nation back in April when I looked. I don't know what they're at now. You want crazy rates, you look at California, Alaska, or the Northeast.

I never looked but 0.13 is my rate. I saved 200 kWh from switching all the house bulbs to LED and using ceiling fans more.

How far does your provider drill down showing usage?

    By the day?

    By the hour?

100 per day is a huge amount of usage

I had to switch last month. Rate was 15.4 cents. Try to find a cheap rate and get it. I was being cheap and waited a few days. It went up to 15.4 cents. Was 14.8 a few days before. This sucks.

I’m doing same thing, going to cancel in December most likely. Hopefully rates are down, but doing it regardless so I can get out of renewing in the summer months

Yeah figure out why you are using so much energy each month and work on conservation techniques.

What does everyone set their A/C temp to during the day and at night currently?

I find 80 degrees during day and 78 degrees at night is fine...both with use of ceiling and/or standing fans to move the air around.

I was going colder for the dog but now the dog's gone so.

I used to do 78/76, but I decided to live wild and carefree nowadays.... so I'm at 76 during the day and 74 at night. With fans.

I strongly suggest anyone with an attic that has less than R-30 roof insulation get a radiant barrier.
