If we are building around Banchero and Green, we need complimentary players that are defenders and rebounders. If I get a pick in this range I am taking Williams or Duren, not Griffin.

We cant move up much with 17 and 26 pick. Why would any team move down that much? We have to add either desired player or future picks with one of the pick to move up several spots.

Yes, it really, really is. How many players in the league can shoot 45% from 3? Steph Curry in his best seasons....but there's not that many others on the list.

How many can even shoot 40%?

Add Tate or Martin. Retain the future picks.

Scouting reports say he was a really bad defender, and not athletic despite his physical appearance.

The thing is, he’s extremely young, won’t turn 19 until the end of august… meaning he averaged double digits on likely the most stacked college team on ELITE efficiency as a 18 year old

The other thing is he dislocated his knee in 2020, sprained his knee and ankle while playing for Duke

So it’s hard to know, is he a hopeless defender, and a poor athlete?Or was he just an extremely young player dragged down with injuries?

Touché….ok second worst post ever to my post you linked. FYI, it was a sarcastic post on a very slow news day. Silas ain’t taking us anywhere but back to the lottery was the hidden message. Rockets would have to give up Tate, Gordon, 17, and 26 to move up to 10-12 range and if so would need to take Duran, Williams, or Sharpe to make it worthwhile. Still feel there is a chance the Rockets attach 26 to John Wall in a salary purge type of move.

This past NBA season 30 players have shot at least 40% from three point range.

They are, as follows: Luke Kennard, Desmond Bane, Tyrese Maxey, Cameron Johnson, Lonzo Ball, Seth Curry, Doug McDermott, Norman Powell, Kyrie Irving, Josh Richardson, Bryn Forbes, Tyrese Haliburton, Eric Gordon, Payton Pritchard, Jrue Holiday, Grant Williams, Max Strus, Karl-Anthony Towns, Grayson Allen, Mike Conley, Anfernee Simons, Alec Burks, Georges Niang, Nicolas Batum, Patty Mills, Tyler Herro, Keldon Johnson, Pat Connaughton, Dorian Finney-Smith, Monte Morris.

There are two stars on that list in Irving and Towns. Maaybe 3, if we add Holiday.

Comparing a spot-up shooter in AJ Griffin to Steph Curry is blasphemous. He's closer to Doug McDermott in his playstyle than Steph. There's no way he would sustain his shooting numbers with higher usage or against tougher teams. I mean, Griffin already proved that by shooting 33% in both the ACC and NCAA tournament.

Yeah, I think it would take a little more than 17 and 26, but not much more. A second or a player.

Well 30 last season. Not sure why AJ Griffin isn't on the list. I did select all conference. You can look back at previous year and look at all the name. Not that many in the NBA. You need to do more than just shoot.

Though it's been discussed in other threads. this is a must-see video if you envision Griffin as a trade-up target. The defensive liability is not simply rooted in his injury history. It seems more fundamental...Seriously, I watched again in case I missed something...Nope...He's just that bad on D at the moment. It's 7 minutes of all the things to do wrong.

He sucks. No lateral movement and can't put the ball on the floor. He's strictly a spot up shooter if that even translates. Someone will end up with a massive bust

I was talking about NBA players that could shoot 45% from 3. There were 25 in the league that played more than token minutes last season. When it comes to legitimate NBA prospects that went to top tier schools, it's SUPER rare.

Also, it's not that he can ONLY shoot....but being able to shoot that well makes up for a lot, especially when you aren't being looked at as a #1 or even a #2 option.

Could be a minimum cut-off thing. Those guys on that list average a lot more 3's per game than AJ and/or had more total 3's. Also consider the NBA's 3 point shot is a longer shot than the college 3 and you can probably understand why a lot of these guys that shoot 40% in college are never heard from again (that and they're just not good enough at anything else to make it in the NBA on just being able to shoot 3's). The college 3 is basically a 22' jumper. "Nooooo.... don't do that!!! it's a long twooooooo!" :D

What? You're comparing college 3PT% to NBA now?

I mean, not exactly, but the point was that being able to shoot 45% from 3 is special. Now if he's ONLY a 40% 3 point shooter in the NBA, that's still special.

Like I said YOU NEED TO DO MORE THAN JUST SHOOT THE BALL. If he's available at 17th/26th pick and other options are gone. Sure I'll take a chance at him. But not moving up to take him.

He's not even going to be able to defend like that. He's going to be a massive bust.
